Fairplex Weekend Recap: Glow sticks and trains

While Fair continues to be our main focus from now into September, we’re always happy to host events in the summer.

Saturday night we happily welcomed back the Night Nation Run. Thousands of runners dressed in their brightest attire took over the infield and surrounding areas as they danced their way through the 5K course.

We ended things with drinks, food and a fun music set in the infield. Glow sticks, endorphins and music are always a good way to close out a Saturday night!

Sunday was a quieter, but no less fun affair, as the Fairplex Garden Railroad opened its gates for their monthly public run. There are several new areas being built at the miniature railroad which will be fully revealed during the 2016 LA County Fair. Stay tuned!

That wraps up our weekend recap. Stay updated on our upcoming events at Fairplex.com!

Our annual fundraiser for The Learning Centers at Fairplex was this Saturday evening out at The Farm!

Guests took their time tasting the various wines, spirits and beers from the Los Angeles International Competitions from earlier this year.

Guests learned how to make craft cocktails from a mixologist, dined on food truck fare, both savory and sweet, and hit the dance floor once the sun went down.

Our silent auction, which also benefits The Learning Centers at Fairplex, had some great items up for bid.

All in all, we had a great time and we look forward to hosting again next year!

Relay For Life Pomona
We had the pleasure of hosting the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life this weekend as well. It is always touching to see a community come together, especially against a disease which affects so many people.

Everybody’s Bird Mart
We closed out the weekend with Everybody’s Bird Mart. Toucans, parrots, canaries, cockatoos and more set up camp in our expo halls as pet owners shopped for treats, toys, cages, vitamins and all the other bird necessities.

All in all it was another busy but fun weekend at Fairplex. Time to rest up a bit and then it’s hitting the ground running for our KABOOM! 4th of July celebration. Can’t wait!

Fairplex Weekend Recap: Asian American Expo

We were b u s y this weekend at Fairplex! Check out what our campus looked like:

Asian American Expo
We kicked things off with the Asian American Expo and it. was. packed. It seems like everywhere you went there was something to eat, buy or do.

We had a blast checking out the cosplay at Anime Impulse, watching guests chow down on fried squid, noodles and desserts of every kind, and clapping along with audiences captivated by Taiko drummers, Tahitian dancers, martial arts demonstrations and more in the expo halls.

On top of that, the Expo also featured several live musical performances, DJ sets and a sample clothing sale.

It was impossible to be bored for a single second and we are already looking forward to next year’s Lunar New Year celebrations!

Pomona Swap Meet
Literally hours after the first night of Asian American Expo came to a close, car enthusiasts started rolling in for the monthly Pomona Swap Meet & Classic Car Show.

As always, guests shopped parts for their current auto projects, showed off their classic cars and enjoyed food and drinks with fellow visitors. Thankfully it wasn’t raining so we enjoyed a sunny Sunday on all sides of campus.

We’re taking a slight breather today but it won’t be long before we’re making preparations for the Grand National Roadster Show. Hope your weekend was as fun as ours was!

This weekend was all about horses.

Equine experts shared their tips, tricks and tools they use to train and care for their horses. Top competitors participated in the stock horse championship for $15,000 in prizes. Our expo halls were filled with vendors selling the best and latest products for every equine category. And of course, there were plenty of horses all over Fairplex!

We love watching our barns and Farm areas put to use during off-Fair season and we loved having Horse Expo Pomona back on our grounds again. All in all? Another fun weekend at Fairplex.

Fairplex Weekend Recap: Holiday season kicks off at Fairplex

This weekend was the perfect beginning to the holidays at Fairplex. In Expo Hall 4 we had the Harvest Festival Original Art & Craft Show, where guests shopped thousands of unique handcrafted gifts, and got swept into the holiday spirit by live performances, twinkling lights and a delicious array of tasty cookies, cakes, nuts and other winter goodies.

Finally, Sunday Funday began bright and early at the Pomona Swap Meet & Classic Car Show on the other side of Fairplex. Flocks of car enthusiasts spent the morning and afternoon perusing auto parts, checking out classic cars and enjoying a shared appreciation of the beauty of the automobile.

Fairplex Weekend Recap: Opening Weekend of Oktoberfest

Fairplex campus buzzed with fun this weekend! Keep reading to see what went down:

Oktoberfest Opening Weekend

Oktoberfest at Fairplex opened this weekend to a crowd 10,000 guests, dead set on eating, drinking and being merry. And merry they were!

Oktoberfest at Fairplex

In the Festhalle, The Rheinlanders Oom-Pah-Pah band carried guests through an evening of the Chicken Dance, conga lines and beer chugging contests. Meanwhile, guests in the courtyard rocked out with Journey tribute band DSB, played carnival games and chowed down on German fare (and King Taco.)

An enticing array of bratwurst, hamburgers, chicken and hot dogs were served, accompanied by sauerkraut, grilled onions and grilled bell peppers for toppings. Huge pretzels and thick cut Belgian fries were the perfect pairing for all the beer being consumed…

AMA Pro Flat Track Finals

Meanwhile, the AMA Pro Flat Track Finals were taking place at the Grandstand Saturday night. From our view at Oktoberfest, we could see clouds of dust and hear the roar of engines late into the evening.

AMA Pro Flat Track Finals

A special congratulations to Jared Mees for claiming his second career overall Grand National Championship this past weekend! You can read the full recap of the night’s events on the AMA website.

Quilt, Craft & Sewing Festival

Fairplex Weekend Recap: Vans Warped Tour, Cheers and Everybody’s Birdmart

Things have finally quieted down at Fairplex after a full weekend of concerts, food, drinks and dancing. We couldn’t have asked for a better way to kick of the first weekend of summer!

20th Anniversary Vans Warped Tour

It was hot, crowded and loud at Fairplex on Friday. Tons of rock music lovers turned out for a full day of bands like We The Kings, Yellowcard, Devil Wears Prada, Falling In Reverse and myriad others. Band meet & greets, food trucks, a giant slip n’ slide, clothing vendors and DJs rounded out a perfect afternoon and evening of fun in the sun. You can watch behind-the-scenes videos and other fun goodies on www.vanswarpedtour.com.

Cheers – L.A.’s Wine, Spirits, Beer & Food Festival

Cheers – L.A.’s Wine, Spirits, Beer & Food Festival

No sooner did Warped Tour wrap up than Cheers opened on Saturday evening. As the sun set behind the San Gabriel mountains, Fairplex came alive with music, dancing, clinking glasses and a tantalizing array of food trucks. Guests spent the summer solstice sampling a seemingly endless supply of award-winning wines, spirits and beers from the Los Angeles International Competitions, participate in a silent auction benefiting The Learning Centers at Fairplex and dance their way through the Cupid Shuffle, salsa, Top 40 and other fun tunes. All in all, a success!

Everybody’s Birdmart

Everybody’s Birdmart

Bird lovers flocked together for an afternoon perusing cages, nests, vitamins, toys, treats and other fun items for their pets. It’s always fun to see the exotic birds on display and to learn exactly how many toys birds can possibly own, treats they like to devour and habitats they live in.

Things are going to be fairly quiet around here this week but our annual 4th of July event, KABOOM! is just around the corner. We’re ready for a night full of monster trucks, motocross and one of the largest fireworks spectaculars in all of California.

Happy Monday!

Event Industry News: Fairplex Weekend Recap

horse expo 1 225x300 Event Industry News: Fairplex Weekend Recap Fairplex weekend recap: Fairplex was buzzing with activity this weekend. The annual Horse Expo filled the FairView Farms stables and paddocks with dozens of horses, and vendors, artists and authors settled into our expo halls.

Thousands of horse enthusiasts flocked to the campus to hear from industry experts, watch breeding demonstrations and shop for saddles, buckles, riding attire and countless other goods.

On the other side of campus the NHRA Winternationals took over our speedway kicking off the 2014 drag racing season.

Sochi Olympics: The 2014 Winter Olympics have been interesting, to say the least. Regardless of various hotel floops and the now-infamous Olympic Ring mishap, the Opening Ceremony was a beautiful tribute to the cultural history of Russia, ending with a glorious 30-minute fireworks show. Not a bad way to start one of the largest events in the world. As of this morning, Team USA has taken a total of five medals–two gold and three bronze.

Facebook Paper

Social media: Facebook had a busy week, creating “Look Back” videos for each of its’ billion users to celebrate its 10th anniversary and launching the new Paper app. The Paper app allows users to organize their news feed based on categories, much like an online newspaper. Options include health, entertainment, crafts, sports, friends, home & garden and numerous other niche categories. Each category is composed of daily top news stories for that category with links to the original story in each post. Visually pleasing, well-organized and easy to use, Paper may be the saving grace of a falling empire.

Technology: Flappy Bird, the wildly popular smartphone/tablet game, ended almost as soon as it began. Despite more than 50 million downloads, game creator Dong Nguyen decided to remove the game from the App Store and Google Play Store today.

“I can’t take it anymore,” Nguyen tweeted on Sunday. Looks like we’ll have to wait awhile for the next latest-and-greatest time waster. Goodbye, Flappy Bird. You were maddeningly addicting while you lasted. Photo taken from Mashable
