The agriculture industry is dwindling in California. We see the impact here in the Inland Empire. Gone are the orange groves in Pomona and the dairy farms that dotted the open land in the Chino Valley, and the lemon trees in Upland. But agriculture is still important to the state, and the Schools’ Agriculture and Nutrition Fair wants you to know all about it.
The Ag Fair, at Fairplex this week through Saturday, is an educational fair featuring thousands of agricultural entries from more than 100 schools throughout the Los Angeles basin. The event attracts students, families, educators and community members to celebrate the achievements of local students and teachers, and to educate the attendees on the importance of agriculture to California.
Schools are on grounds through Friday but the public is invited to come out Saturday and look at the displays, check out the great entries and learn a thing or two like how to worm compost and how to grow a garden in one square foot. A spelling bee will be held Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. If you are interested, call the office at (909) 348-2988. Booths include hatching chicks, insect displays, interactive science exhibits and the San Dimas Farmers Market. There are great artistic displays with an ag theme and some cool California mission models.
