AXC Hosts Pinewood Derby

April 4, 2018

Last month AXC/Petersen Garage had the pleasure of hosting Scout Pack 415 and their Pinewood Derby!

Normally our garage is filled with high school students from the Career & Technical Education Center’s automotive program. It was fun to switch things up and watch a good old-fashioned Cub Scout derby.

If you don’t know what the Pinewood Derby is, here’s the scoop: The Pinewood Derby has been a part of the Cub counts / Boy Scouts since 1953, with nearly 100 million participants to date!

Cub Scouts work with their parent or mentor to build custom race cars, including the design, paint, decals and more. Their cars then race in heats of 2-4 cars on a downhill track leading to the finish line.

Derby cars can actually reach a speed of nearly 20 mph and, if enlarged to the size of a real vehicle, would be speeding at more than 200 mph!

We were happy to provide the venue for Pack 415’s derby. Thanks to our team for making this happen!
