Summer Learning at Fairplex

May 16, 2017

For us, summer is the start of our busy season. We’re in full Fair mode, getting ready for September. But that’s not our only focus during these months — it wouldn’t be Fairplex if there wasn’t an educational component happening too! Here are some of our summer learning programs for all ages:

Career & Technical Education Classes: Our Career & Technical Education Center (CTEC) is offering summer courses for high school students, beginning in June. Students can take advantage of a number of programs, including courses in 2D design, ceramics, culinary skills and the auto entry. View full class descriptions and information about applying here.

Photography Classes: We’ve partnered with Feel the Touch Photography for summer photography classes at the Millard Sheets Art Center. Join us for the opening reception on Tuesday, May 23 5 – 7 p.m. at the gallery and learn more about this program. More information can be found at feelthetouchphotographyclasses.com.

Palates & Palettes Wine & Paint Night (21+): Okay so this one might be a little more fun than education-based, but it’s still a chance to learn! Our wine & paint nights feature a different artist each month, and art classes are led by a professional instructor. Guests can indulge in wine and food inspired by the featured artist’s hometown, while learning to paint one of his/her great works. Learn more here.

Family Art Workshops: While most of our workshops are fully booked, we encourage you to get on the waiting list for our popular Family Workshops! Held once a month at the Millard Sheets Art Center, these workshops give children and their parents the opportunity to create something together, while learning a bit about art history. Our final session takes place in June and draws inspiration from John Svenson. Learn about Tlingit Indians art, look at examples of their art and talk about how it influenced Svenson’s work! Farm Workshops: Our Farm team works hard to provide the local community with free learning opportunities, from field trips to gardening workshops to partnerships with other organizations. Stay tuned for information on upcoming events! To learn more about The Farm at Fairplex, click here.
