On Wednesday, July 22, over 300 Special Olympics athletes and their host families from Claremont, La Verne and Pomona, were welcomed to Fairplex for a beautiful celebration that included a barbecue, music, games and carousel rides!
The event began at 5 pm with athletes and officers from the Pomona and La Verne police departments carrying the Special Olympics Torch to the front of the stage where many city and state dignitaries were eager to welcome the athletes.
Countries being represented on this day included Bolivia, Curacao, Pakistan, Libya, Latvia, the Republic of Georgia, the U.S. Virgin Islands and the Isle of Man.
Special Olympics World Games 2015 begin July 25 and it includes over 7,000 athletes from 177 countries.
