ArtReach: The Art of Pop Culture

March 13, 2014

While we were going green at IrishFest, our non-profit sector The Learning Centers were busy launching the third annual ArtReach event at the Millard Sheets Arts Center.

ArtReach invites local high school students to showcase their artwork based on a specific theme. This year the theme is The Art of Pop Culture More than 700 arts patrons came out to support the students, attending the awards ceremony and purchasing their favorite pieces after. Works included sculptures, paintings, photography and film.

Upon entering the lobby, guests are greeted by “Treading Loudly,” a large collection of shoes with elaborate custom designs by dozens of high school students. The result is a fun and creative wall of color.

The gallery itself is a beautiful commentary on pop culture and our society. Art pieces cover everything from materialism to drug and alcohol abuse, narcissism to a technology-dependent generation.
