The 49th annual NHRA Finals starts tomorrow and runs through Sunday. It’s going to be loud, wild and tons of fun as thousands of drag racing fans come out to join the action and see who the world champions will be.
We stopped by the Auto Club Raceway today to see how preparations were going. It’s bustling down there! Crews are moving cars around, prepping them for the big weekend, Cornucopia Foods is busily setting up food stand favorites like Pink’s Hot Dogs, SoCal Burgers and the Saddle Up Saloon, and sponsors have set up their enormous trailers and booths including brands like Geicko, Toyota, Mello Yello and others.
Motorcraft setting up their enormous display
Golf carts, motorcycles and trucks go to and fro across the expansive grounds while the drag strip itself is being prepped for the big weekend. As if that weren’t enough, 2,500 students are also here for a Career Fair, learning about racing, the army and other exciting careers.
Needless to say, it. is. busy.
Geico has a full-on kitchen, car shop and more at their station
The Sheraton Fairplex Hotel crew is bustling around, making catering preparations for several car crews as well as race attendees.
10 pit crews have requested our farm-fresh gourmet meals for their fare and Chef Teig and his team are happy to comply.
According to Teig, a wide variety of meals are being requested, with everything from down-to-earth Angus burgers to the more delicate filet mignon.
Meanwhile on the other side of campus in the Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum, the Prolong Twilight Cruise is getting ready to kick-off at 4 p.m. this evening.
The Twilight Cruise invites car enthusiasts to come together for a relaxing evening of food, drink and cars galore. Guests bring their muscle cars, hot rods and classics down as they mix and mingle with fellow car lovers. It’s the perfect “pre-game” to the drag racing finals.
