“And” is the fifth-most used word in the English language. Apparently typing/writing “and” is something of a hassle, thus the ampersand (&) was born and has been used properly and improperly ever since.
Now restauranteur Paul Mathis is attempting to seal a similar fate for the most commonly used word in the English language: “the.”
The proposed symbol consists of a combination of a capital T and a lowercase h.
So how much does it cost to create a new symbol? In this case, it costs $75,000. This could come in handy for platforms like Twitter, where the 140-character rule is still enforced. “Is this important?” said Mathis. “No. Is this going to change the world? Not really. But is it something that might be useful for people? I think so.”
