Happy December! Things are looking merry and bright here at Fairplex and we’re ready to celebrate the end of 2016 with some of our favorite traditional events. Check it out:

Harvest Festival (Dec. 2-4): Our month starts off with the Original Harvest Festival Arts & Crafts Show! This is the place to shop for handmade gifts.

We love the atmosphere of cheery holiday music, glowing lights, tasty treats and row upon row of artisan items. For more information, visit harvestfestival.com.

PomonaSwapMeet December at Fairplex Pomona Swap Meet & Classic Car Show (Dec. 4): Our last Pomona Swap Meet of 2016 is this Sunday! Shop thousands of car parts & accessories, enjoy the sight of hundreds of classic cars, and hang out with fellow car enthusiasts. More info available at pomonaswapmeet.com.

 

HolidayHalf December at Fairplex Holiday Half Marathon (Dec. 10-11): December wouldn’t be December without the Holiday Half Marathon! The fun starts on Saturday, Dec.10 with the health & fitness expo, Holiday 5K and the Kids 1K Penguin Waddle.

Runners can also register during this time. The actual half marathon is on Sunday, with runners starting their race at Fairplex. For registration information, schedule of events and more, visit runholidayhalf.com.

RVShow December at Fairplex Giant LA Winter RV Show: We end 2016 with the return of the Giant LA Winter RV Show. Roadtrippers can shop the latest in travel fun and speak with experts on various products and services. More info at fairplex.com.

Santa Cop Party: The Pomona Police Department hosted their annual Santa Cop party this weekend. We have spent the last few weeks helping to prepare for the event by collecting and sorting toys for the families who attended. We also brought Thummer, the LA County Fair mascot, out to the event to say hello to all the guests. We had a blast!

Holiday Half Marathon: The annual Holiday Half Marathon took over the campus this weekend. Hundreds of runners (dressed in all manner of festive attire!) enjoyed the Kool n’ Fit Festival and made the 13.1 mile trek through and around Fairplex!

Compost, Vermiculture & School Gardens Workshop: The Learning Centers at Fairplex hosted a gardening workshop at The Farm on Saturday. Attendees received their own compost and worm bins and learned best practices from Curtis Thomsen from the LA County Smart Gardening Program led the workshop.

Cirque Du Soleil’s Kurios (TONIGHT!): Forget Vegas, Cirque du Soleil’s “Kurios: Cabinet of Curiosities” opens this weekend in Los Angeles! Journey into the past with jazz, swing and steampunk-electornic performances. As with all Cirque shows, jaw-dropping acts carry the show from start to finish. See it tonight at Dodger Stadium. Holiday Half Marathon (Dec 12-13): Tis’ the season for generosity, love and… running? The annual Holiday Half Marathon is this weekend at Fairplex! The fun starts early Saturday morning at the Kool n’ Fit Festival. Runners can pick up their running packets and bibs and check out health and fitness booths. We will also be hosting the Penguin Waddle Kid’s Run and the Holiday 5K on grounds! The actual Holiday Half Marathon begins bright and early Sunday morning with the first wave at 8 a.m. The Kool n’ Fit Festival continues from 6 a.m. – noon. Rail Giants Train Museum (Dec 12-13): The Rail Giants Train Museum is open to the public this weekend. Explore the ins and outs of these gigantic trains and chat with our docents to learn more about each engine’s unique history. Admission is FREE for all ages. For more information, click here.

Pomona Christmas Parade (Dec 12): The annual City of Pomona Christmas Parade is this Saturday. Onlookers will spot LA County Fair floats in the procession. Head to downtown Pomona to check out the sights from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. For more details, click here.

Fairplex Garden Railroad (Dec 13): Check out the Fairplex Garden Railroad this Sunday! The miniature world is decked out in holiday cheer, including not-so-tiny Christmas trees and garlands strung along the gates. Our docents will be present to answer any questions you might have. Admission is free to the public. For more information, click here.

Hoppy Holidays (Dec 13): For the craft beer set, Angel City Brewery is hosting Hoppy Holidays. Sip on a chilled brew, eat at Papas Tapas and check out clothing from 35 local artisans from the Arts District. In the holiday spirit, bring a winter coat to donate to the Skid Row Housing Trust. Happy December! Where has the year gone… it seems like just yesterday we were making plans for the 2015 LA County Fair. As usual, we still have plenty of things to do at Fairplex as we welcome the holiday season. Take your pick:

Show off your prettiest hot rods, grab a beer and some friends, and wind down your week with fellow car lovers. In true holiday spirit, the event is running its’ annual Toy Drive! Whether you’ve been refurbishing a truck or polishing up your favorite hot rod, no one will appreciate your labor of love more than the attendees at the Pomona Swap Meet. garden railroad December at FairplexFairplex Garden Railroad (Dec 14): There’s nothing quite like the magic of this miniature world, sitting right here at Fairplex. Explore detailed scenic displays, including replicas of some of Pomona’s oldest and most beloved buildings. Our volunteers are always working on new projects and are happy to share on the latest updates!

We hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving! The holidays are upon us and Fairplex is winding down from a year of fun and exciting events. We have a few more festivities in store for 2014, all happening within the next three weeks:

Prolong Twilight Cruise (Dec. 3): Join us for the last Twilight Cruise of the year, holiday style. Bring a toy to donate to the Cruise’s annual toy drive! Enjoy free admission to the NHRA Motorsports Museum beginning at 3 p.m. and check out hundreds of hot rods, classics and vintage race cars. For more information, visit nhramusem.org.

Harvest Festival (Dec. 5-7): Begin your holiday shopping at the Harvest Festival Original Art & Craft Show. Indulge in holiday treats and enjoy live entertainment while shopping for your loved ones from dozens of unique vendors. For more information visit harvestfestival.com.

Swap Meet & Classic Car Show (Dec. 7): Find hundreds of vendors in over 2,000 vendor spaces selling tons of hard to find car parts and accessories at low swap meet prices. Holiday Half-Marathon (Dec. 13): The annual Holiday Half-Marathon is back at Fairplex! Arrive decked in your most festive holiday wear and run through a flurry of “snow” as you begin the 13.1 mile trek. A free kids Penguin Waddle 1K is offered on Saturday, following the 5K Run/Walk. Artists For Art’s Sake (ongoing – Dec. 19): The Artists For Art’s Sake exhibition opened last weekend at the Millard Sheets Art Center and will run through mid-December. Browse a vast collection of paintings, photography, mixed media and other unique artwork created by local artists. All artwork is on sale if you see any compelling pieces that you would like to add to your collection with proceeds benefiting The Learning Centers at Fairplex. Tis’ the season for a Holiday Half Marathon

Santa Claus hats, elf ears and running shoes were seen for literal miles this weekend as thousands of runners participated in the annual Holiday Half Marathon at Fairplex. A flurry of snow spurred runners across the starting line, through our campus and around the surrounding hills and parks of Fairplex. Check out the fun in the video!

How is already the middle of December? The holiday festivities are out in full force and whether you like it or not, you’ll most likely be spending at least a few days out celebrating the end of the year.

If you want to stay home wrapped in a warm Snuggie we totally commend that. But for those of you who are digging the Christmas tunes and the abundance of gingerbread houses, you’re in for a great weekend.

Holiday Half Marathon (and 5k):The annual Holiday Half Marathon is happening this Sunday at Fairplex. The course gives runners a beautiful view of the surrounding hills and mountains and a behind-the-scenes view of our scenic campus. After you’ve beasted the 13.1 trek you can celebrate at our Holiday Finish Line Festival. If a half-marathon sounds like the equivalent of scaling Mt. Everest to you, opt for the Holiday 5k Fun Run or the take the kids on the 1 mile Penguin Waddle on Saturday, December 14th.  Register at runholidayhalf.com

Festival of Carols: Take a trip to the beautiful Disney Concert Hall and treat yourself to an afternoon of classic carols sung by one of the best choirs in the world. It is a long-standing L.A. tradition that celebrates musical talent and merits an appearance by Santa Claus himself. The concert begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Holiday Concert on the Pier: If you’re in the South Bay/Westside of town, head over to Redondo Beach this Saturday for the third annual holiday concert on the pier. Enjoy a hot cup of cocoa and a beautiful view of the ocean as Santa Claus comes to town for an afternoon of songs, games and photos. Don’t forget to bring an unwrapped gift valued at $5 or more for the toy donation! Additional information can be found here.

Marina Del Rey Boat Parade: Tis’ the season to bling your boat up. The 51st annual Marina Del Rey Boat Parade brings dozens of boats through the Marina decked out in elaborate lights and decor, and emanating pure holiday cheer. A traditional fireworks display starts the evening off this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. Grab some blankets and your favorite people, and enjoy this fun parade.

Luminaria Nights: The Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden in Claremont transforms into a twinkling wonderland on Friday and Saturday nights for their seasonal Luminaria events. These evening walks feature live acoustic music, delicious cookies and hot cider as you walk along paths, guided by thousands of candle-lit lanterns on the Indian Hill Mesa. Visit any time between 6 – 9 p.m. this weekend. Additional information can be found here.
