5 Reasons We Love the Asian American Expo

For us, January just doesn’t feel like January without the Asian American Expo. This event has grown and evolved year after year, and we can honestly say this is looking like the best one yet. Here’s why:

5 Reasons We Love the Asian American Expo

Fairplex Events AsianExpo sashimi 292x300 5 Reasons We Love the Asian American Expo 1. The Food: Ramen noodles, dumplings, fried foods, steamed foods, desserts galore… we approach the Asian Expo like we do the LA County Fair, with empty stomachs and the mindset to try everything. Or at least try… the food selection is pretty huge.

2. Anime Impulse: Anime Impulse fuses the world of anime and video games into one. VIP parties, celebrity appearances, eSports, cosplay, artist alleys, vendors, panels, and a car show make this one of the brightest, liveliest sections of the Expo.

3. Huge discounts: The Silk Show Sample Sale brings fashion brands to the Asian Expo, offering clothe and accessories at 50-80% off retail price. We definitely plan on checking out the STEP & Repeat sneaker convention while they’re here.

Fairplex Events AsianExpo performance 300x200 5 Reasons We Love the Asian American Expo 4. Culture: One of the best parts of the Asian American Expo is that it brings a variety of cultures and traditions together under one roof. From Japan to China to Korea and beyond, there are plenty of dance and martial art performances, art, food and vendors to see.

5. Instagram: The Asian American Expo is prime Instagram content. From delicious foodie shots to videos of the eating contests, it’s almost impossible to not want to capture it all on your feed. Follow @fairplex for pics, videos and live footage.

Come and experience it all for yourself this weekend at Fairplex! The expo is open Jan. 14 & 15 (Saturday/Sunday) from 10 a.m. – 7 p.m. For more info visit AAExpo.com.

Fairplex Weekend Recap: Asian American Expo

We were b u s y this weekend at Fairplex! Check out what our campus looked like:

Asian American Expo
We kicked things off with the Asian American Expo and it. was. packed. It seems like everywhere you went there was something to eat, buy or do.

We had a blast checking out the cosplay at Anime Impulse, watching guests chow down on fried squid, noodles and desserts of every kind, and clapping along with audiences captivated by Taiko drummers, Tahitian dancers, martial arts demonstrations and more in the expo halls.

On top of that, the Expo also featured several live musical performances, DJ sets and a sample clothing sale.

It was impossible to be bored for a single second and we are already looking forward to next year’s Lunar New Year celebrations!

Pomona Swap Meet
Literally hours after the first night of Asian American Expo came to a close, car enthusiasts started rolling in for the monthly Pomona Swap Meet & Classic Car Show.

As always, guests shopped parts for their current auto projects, showed off their classic cars and enjoyed food and drinks with fellow visitors. Thankfully it wasn’t raining so we enjoyed a sunny Sunday on all sides of campus.

We’re taking a slight breather today but it won’t be long before we’re making preparations for the Grand National Roadster Show. Hope your weekend was as fun as ours was!

5 Things You Need to Know for the 2016 Asian American Expo

AAX performers 300x199 5 Things You Need to Know for the 2016 Asian American ExpoThe Asian American Expo comes to Fairplex this weekend to celebrate the Lunar New Year! We plan on eating tons of good food, shop a little (or a lot), and watch live entertainment all weekend long. If you plan on joining us, there are a few things you should know before attending:

1. It’s the Year of the Monkey. According to the Chinese zodiac, this is the year of the monkey. The monkey symbolizes cleverness in Chinese culture and is often viewed as a powerful and protective figure in mythological tales. The Lunar New Year is only a few weeks away so welcome the Year of the Monkey in style with us!

2. Grab a red bag. Upon entering you will likely be offered a red bag. Take it. Red symbolizes good luck and you’ll definitely want something to carry all your acquired food, goodies and free swag in!

3. Know your options. The Asian American Expo spans several of our exhibition halls and a good portion of the grounds so it’s easy to miss some of the best entertainment. Check the schedule for eating contests, dance and music shows, Anime Impulse happenings and of course, all the food and craft beer options available.

4. Arrive with an empty stomach. You’ll want to leave plenty of room in your stomach for noodles, sushi, dumplings, desserts and beverages while you’re here! Arrive like you’re planning to devour all three meals at once (because you most likely will!)

5. Buy pre-sale. Avoid the lines and purchase tickets online. That way all you have to do is show up to the entrance and you’ll be set for your day with us. Check the Asian American Expo website for ticket purchase details.

That’s it! We hope you’ll join us this weekend. Make sure to tag @fairplex in all your Twitter and Instagram photos and you might see your content featured on our social media channels!
