Fairplex Weekend Recap: Celebrating Dia de los Muertos at En Memoria

What a fun weekend at Fairplex! From our first ever Dia de los Muertos celebration (En Memoria), to the freaktacular spectacle that was Lagunitas Beer Circus, to the family fun at Fall in the Farm, the fun was truly non-stop.

We like to share our weekend experiences through the eyes of our guests! Here are some of our favorites:

En Memoria
Hop contest, lowrider displays, unique altars, delicious food, live music and beautiful weather made our first event a wonderful success! Thanks to all who joined us in our Dia de los Muertos celebrations — already looking forward to next year.

Lagunitas Beer Circus

Fall in The Farm
We continued to enjoy gorgeous fall weather on Sunday at Fall in the Farm! Our celebration of all things agriculture included cow milking demonstrations, turkey calling contests, workshops in gardening, floral arrangements and egg hatching, booths from 20+ community partners, olive oil and tea tasting, visits with our resident farm animals and much more.

This event has only continued to grow over the years and we look forward to continued partnerships with the local community in the future!

All in all, a successful weekend at Fairplex, using all parts of our diverse campus. To see what’s coming up next, visit us at Fairplex.com.

Fairplex Snapshot: Pacific Standard Time LA/LA

Today we had the pleasure of hosting two special guests at Fairplex: Comedian, actor and writer Cheech Marin, and Riverside Art Museum curator Todd Wingate.

If you visited the Fair in September, you might have seen the PST LA/LA One Path Two Journeys exhibit at the Millard Sheets Art Center. This special Chicano art exhibit is part of the larger Pacific Standard Time art initiative throughout Southern California.

Cheech is an avid Chicano art collector, and actually lent us several pieces from his Patssi Valdez collection. It was great to walk with him through the exhibit and to hear his thoughts on the art as a whole.

The Riverside Art Museum is also participating in the Pacific Standard Time LA/LA initiative. We enjoyed connecting with Todd and talking about both of our museums’ experiences in being part of this wonderful project.

Thank you to Cheech and Todd for hanging out! It was a pleasure to meet you both.

Pomona Foundation Field Trip at Fairplex

Yesterday we had the pleasure of hosting a field trip for Pomona families! We partnered with the Pomona Library Foundation‘s Summer Field Trip program and provided tours of The Farm at Fairplex and NHRA Motorsports Museum.

Fairplex TLC fieldtrip 1024x764 Pomona Foundation Field Trip at Fairplex A total of 52 people joined us for the day. These families are a part of the Pomona Library’s after-school tutoring sessions and each summer they go on a series of field trips around LA County.

We are proud to be part of such a great program. We had a lot of fun sharing knowledge about urban farming and the history of the Southern California auto industry with our community. Our volunteers and staff alike really enjoyed connecting with our local children and parents.

Special thanks to Dr. Perlman, Councilmember Gonzalez and our volunteers for making this event possible! We hope our guests had an educational and memorable day with us.
