Brace Yourselves. Summer is Coming.

game of thrones meme memegenerator.net

All Game of Thrones memes aside, our warmest season is upon us. School books are shut, windows are open and summer is well on its way. (Some would argue its already here, but according to science, the official start of summer is June 21. So.)

It doesn’t quite feel like summer to us until the rides, circus performers and other Fair paraphernalia come rolling in but we have plenty to occupy us in the meantime!

We try our best not to do too much promotion here on the blog but we are genuinely excited for everything we have coming and would hate for you to miss out on your favorite band, a chance to wine and dine, run a 5k or any other fun summer happenings you might enjoy. To play on the words of Game of Throne’s Eddard Stark: “Brace yourselves. Summer is coming.” Keep reading to hear about our biggest events this summer :)

1. Vans Warped Tour: Don your favorite pair of Vans, grab a Monster energy drink and head down to Fairplex for some solid good times at Vans Warped Tour. Bands include August Burns Red, Chiodos, Hawthorne Heights, and The Ataris. Don’t forget to cheer on the winners of last year’s Battle of the Bands that went down at the L.A. County Fair! Purchase tickets here.

Will it be hot? Yes. Will it be worth it? Definitely. (If crowd surfing, moshing and loud music are your thing, that is.)

2. Cheers: L.A.’s Wine, Spirits, Beer & Food Festival: Come check out the winners of our Los Angeles International Wine, Spirts, Beer and Olive Oil Competitions at Cheers: L.A.’s Wine, Spirits, Beer and Food Festival. Enjoy a casual evening at our Wine & Spirits Marketplace and eat, drink and be merry. Sip, chew and then dance the night away with your significant other or a handful of your closest friends. P.S. It’s for a good cause! Proceeds benefit The Learning Centers at Fairplex. To purchase tickets, click here.

3. KABOOM!: Celebrate the birth of our country’s independence with some fireworks, motocross, monster trucks and delicious food and beverages at the 11th annual  KABOOM!.

4. Run, Forest, Run: Scattered throughout the summer are 5ks and 10ks all loaded with fun elements like foam, neon glow and colored dye. The best part? You don’t need to be a hard-core runner to participate in any of these events. What you need is a taste for adventure and some good, messy fun. Check our events page for full details on our many races.

5. The L.A. County Fair: We saved the best for last :) Chicken Charlie’s, carnival rides, concerts, games, photos and bungee jumping are just a few things that should be enjoyed at every county fair. And at OUR Fair we also have sharks, sea lions, Disney, Pixar, Kung Fu Panda and a Living Library of Fun.

Whatever you decide to do this summer, we hope you have a blast doing it. Check back here for updates on summer event news, things to do in Los Angeles and a behind-the-scenes look at some of our events, including preparations for the L.A. County Fair!

Upcoming Fairplex Events in 2013

…And we are back!

As usual, the holiday season was jam-packed with parties. Fairplex and the Sheraton Hotel and Conference Center played host to a number of events towards the end of December and we aren’t slowing down in the slightest with 2013!

Some of our upcoming events include…

ArtReach 2013 (The Art of Food): The second annual regional high school art exhibition will showcase the artwork and talent of local students in the form of visual art work, the theme being food! Parents, friends and others in the community can check out the creativity at the Millard Sheets Center for the Arts.

Upland Lemon Festival: On the last weekend of April, the Upland Lemon Festival brings  the Upland community and surrounding areas together to celebrate the agricultural history of the town. Swing by downtown Upland and check out the rides, food competitions, Lemon Idol and other fun activities.

Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition:
2013 marks the 75th annual wine competition at Fairplex with entries from around the world. We can’t wait to see (and taste!) the different wines, spirits and olive oils this year’s competitors will bring.

Kaboom!: Celebrate the 4th of July with us for a day full of motorcross, monster trucks and a spectacular fireworks show. Fairplex also offers a buffet to guests. It’s a great way to kick off the summer festivities.

L.A. County Fair 2013: It’s hard to picture the Fair now, with snow on the mountain tops and the heater on high, but before you know it, the L.A. County Fair will be up and running and the smell of deep-fried everything will float through the air.

Looks like 2013 will be full of fun and excitement for Fairplex!

KABOOM! is near

It’s coming, people. It’s about this.

See you there!

Wine, Cars, Stars & Horses

I really like this place in June. First, we have wine. A lot of wine – something like 3,500 different varieties – that our world-renowned wine judges are sipping, sloshing and sptooing right now for the Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition.

What you might not know: The thousands of wine glasses used for the competition are all hand-washed and dried. No soap, no lint, just hot, hot water and a lot of polishing by the wine team at Fairplex.

Then, on Saturday, June 14, you can be among the first to taste the award winners from the competition at the Wine & Cars Under the Stars  soiree. If you need a reason to attend besides just having fun and tasting some really great wines and spirits, sampling some amazing olive oils (we also have an international olive oil competition going on at Fairplex with more than 500 entries!), this event is for a good cause. It’s a fundraiser for the Millard Sheets Center for the Arts. Tickets are $100 per person, $50 of which is tax deductible!

FREEBIES!

If you need some FREE entertainment, come to the June Classic Morgan Horse Show, Friday, May 30 – Sunday, June 1, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Park at Gate 12 on White Avenue for the usual $9.

What you might not know: Morgan horses were Civil War soldiers’ preferred mount because they were tireless workers, unfailingly loyal workers and would perform consistently under fire. They could also accommodate an uncertain war-time diet.

GET READY FOR KABOOM! This is the best 4th of July fireworks show in the area and you won’t get bored waiting for dark because there are Monster Truck and Big Air Freestyle Motocross before the KABOOM! part of the show. Tickets are on sale now at the Fairplex Credentials Office (909-865-4070). Don’t wait. This will be a sellout! Tickets are $19.50 (reserved box seats), $17.50 (trackside bleachers), and $14 (general seating).
