Fairplex Weekend Recap: Halloween Fun!

It was non-stop Halloween fun this weekend at Fairplex! Check outt our events from our guests’ perspective:

Halloween at Oktoberfest

We extended Oktoberfest an extra weekend this year for Halloween. Guests put on their favorite costumes, filled up their steins with beer and danced the weekend away with us. Thanks to the non-stop entertainment from our tribute band, oom-pah-pah performers and DJ, we can definitely say it was a Halloween celebration to remember!

RISE of the Jack O’Lanterns
Our family-friendly Halloween event, RISE of the Jack O’Lanterns, was a truly unique sight to see. We couldn’t believe the intricate work the pumpkin carvers did, creating elaborate jack o’lanterns consisting of 5,000 pumpkins.

All in all, we had a fantastic Halloween season! From our Neighborhood Halloween party to the final walk-through of RISE, this has been one of our favorite years to date. For more information on upcoming Fairplex events, visit us at Fairplex.com.

While the promised storm may not have come to fruition, we were certainly prepared!

With the potential for flooding and mudslides in recent burn areas, we worked with our local communities participating in the horse evacuation.

We’re currently housing about 60 horses in our barns, and are happy to have them stay with us!

We’re glad that the predicted storm has made this evacuation merely a precaution.

Fairplex Gives: Employee Blood Drive

Throughout the year Fairplex partners with a number of non-profit organizations in the local area, giving our employees a chance to give back to a great cause.

This month we worked with Cedars Sinai and City of Hope for platelet and blood donations respectively.

The Sheraton Fairplex Conference Center turned into a blood drive center as our employees and their friends and family donated blood and platelets.

Thank you to all who took the time to donate, and to Cedars Sinai and City of Hope for partnering with us for this!

RISE Of The Jack O’Lanterns

We kicked off our Hallows festivities last night at our annual Neighborhood Halloween Party and the fun continued into today with the debut of RISE of the Jack O’Lanterns.

The RISE team has spent the past few days diligently carving intricate jack o’lanterns in Expo Hall 4, and today they opened the doors to us.

To say we were impressed is an understatement! We couldn’t believe the creativity that went into this Halloween exhibit, from the giant Darth Vader head to the giant serpent made of dozens of jack o’lanterns strung together.

We have had a lot of events come through over the years, but we’ve never seen anything quite like this!

We don’t want to ruin too much for you so we’ll leave you to explore Rise of the Jack O’Lanterns for yourself!

Tickets are available for select times now through Sunday, just in time to celebrate Halloween.

Hope to see you here this weekend!

Fairplex Snapshot: Annual Neighborhood Halloween Party

Every year our staff and volunteers host a festive, candy-filled Halloween party for our neighbors and their families.

Our Farm is transformed into a land of tricks and treats: bounce houses, games, crafts, a hay maze, food, drinks and our very own pumpkin patch! We love meeting and spending time with the folks who surround our property and we’re thankful for the staff and volunteers who take the time to make all of this happen.

It’s going to be an exciting Halloween weekend here at Fairplex — this party is just the beginning!

Fairplex Embraces Aquaponics System

Aquaponics System at The Farm

We love The Farm at Fairplex. Besides being one of the most peaceful places on our grounds, this place is LIFE and constantly changing. We’ve shown you the crops, the lovely animals and now we want to explain the purpose of our aquaponics system.

Aquaponics combines aquaculture (the raising of fish) and hydroponics (the soil-less growing of plants). When combined, fish and plants grow together in one integrated system.

Here is a diagram that explains things a bit more:

For the third straight year, Red Bull Straight Rhythm took over Fairplex this past weekend for the most unique race in the world of professional motocross. Fans from all across the SoCal visited our campus with family and friends to cheer their favorites riders. This Supercross game changer took place on a 1/2-mile “unwound” racetrack — no turns, just a half-mile-long straight rhythm section. This year featured a revised format where practice, qualifying and racing all took place on the same day, with the final taking place at night under the lights to crown the 2016 Red Bull Straight Rhythm champion.

Congratulations to Marvin Musquin for winning the 2016 Red Bull Straight Rhythm’s Open Class and to Shane McElrath for winning the Lite Class!

Lots of music & dancing  If you want to get the most out of Oktoberfest at Fairplex, we recommend leaving your inhibitions at the door and doing some traditional (and not-so-traditional) dancing with our oom-pah-pah band. We’ll take you through the Chicken Dance, group dances and partner dances, and we will definitely have you up and on your feet by the end of the night! P.S. – Our cover bands are always a good time too!
