Become a Wine Expert, Take a Class

The schedule of the Wine & Spirit Marketplace’s wine education classes is lacountyfairwinemarketplacewinnerlineupnow up on our Web page for you to peruse and register for a seat. The Fair’s wine education program, run in conjunction with the Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition, is extremely popular – and worth the effort to get to one. Some of the top names in the wine, spirits and olive oil industries lead the classes. And besides learning a lot, you’ll have a fun time.

To whet your appetite we have: Wines of Santa Barbara County with Wes lacountyfairwinemarketplacecrowdHagen, winemaker for Clos Pepe; Wine, Cheese & Chocolate (yum!) with Mark Newman; Wines of Spain with Adam LaZarre, winemaker of Villa San-Juliette, formerly of Hahn Estates; Spirits 101; and Bottle or Box – A Whole New World of Wine.

Each class features a minimum of six wines and each participant will receive a tasting ticket for a taste of a Gold Medal winner from the International Tasting Bar. The cost is $17 per class.

Besides wine, we have Chef Henry Gonzalez of Spaggi’s Restaurant who will be out on four occasions to conduct a cooking class.

Wine education classes are held every day of the Fair. Check the Web site for a schedule.

It’s Almost May…

hatsIt’s almost May and I have to say that I’m getting excited! The Fair is right around the corner, the Los Angeles International Wine and Spirits Competition, and the Los Angeles International Commercial Beer Competitions are coming up VERY quickly, and on May 2nd we are having a Kentucky Derby Party!!!

Yup… I said PARTY and everyone is invited. I know what you’re thinking….. what a fun place to work, and you would be correct. The fun will begin at 7am for you die-hard fans, and for those of you who will still be in bed at 7am (like me) it will still be exciting at around 10am… I promise!

We will be celebrating in true Churchill Downs fashion with mint juleps, big crazy hats, and the loudest cheering possible! While most of my Fairplex friends are excited about the race, I admit that I am most excited about the hats!!! We are even having a hat contest and you can sign up that day! I work here so I can’t participate in the contest… but I will still be wearing the most outrageous hat that my creative mind can come up with.

Join me at Fairplex Satellite Wagering – It’s going to be a great party so bring on the horses and the hats!

It’s time for Wine, Spirits and Beer!

wine20tastingAs we all continue to work diligently to bring everyone the most amazing 2009 Fair, we are also working on the Los Angeles International Wine and Spirits Competition and the Los Angeles International Commercial Beer Competition. When it comes to the best of the best… it all comes from these competitions!

Entries are pouring in (not literally… yet) and keeping everyone on their toes. The most exciting part is where the entries are coming from- Italy, France, Canada, Boston, Mexico, Poland, Spain, Netherlands, and that is just the beginning!

The best part of all of this for our Fairguests is that you all get to taste the beerselectionaward winners. Yes…you heard right! During the Fair, you can stop off at the Los Angeles International Wine and Spirits Marketplace, presented by Ralphs and taste award winning wines, learn about the different spirits, and taste award winning beers in the brand new beer tavern. This amazing new tavern will serve the award winning beer both inside as well as outside!

So get your taste buds ready because our award winning entries are going to knock your socks off this year!

P.S. Don’t forget! If you want to join in on the fun, enter your homemade wine and homemade beer into the Fair competition. Every entry will be displayed in The Village on Broadway so you can brag to all of your friends!
