Did you notice there is a counter on the LA County Fair homepage? Does it really say 29 days? When I left a week ago to go on a brief trip, I thought we still had plenty of time. Not! Once D-day gets under a month’s time, well that’s serious! So stop! I’m not going to think about how many days left “until”…right now. Let’s continue on the food theme. Let me tell you about another new food item we’ll have at the Fair in, gulp, another 29 days.
CBS Cup Cakes will make its LA County Fair debut. The dreamchild of Gary and Connie Barham, Sara Houk and Bridget Morris (the Barhams own the Hot Dog on a Sticks on the fairgrounds and Sara and Bridget worked for HDOS), CBS Cup Cakes will offer muffin-sized cup cakes in three flavors with a choice of frosting and toppings (they’ll also be selling mini-cup cakes). I love the opening of their press release:
“Once upon a time, at a Fair not too far from here, 3 girls dreamed of serving sweet treats to all the land. They worked day and night to bring their unique creations to you. With love and laughter, frosting and fun, the sweetness of Cup Cakes it has become! And they frosted happily ever after…”
They’ve created a very cute white, black and pink trailer – chandelier and rotating cup cake included. The cup cake flavors include Red Velvet, chocolate and vanilla with a choice of chocolate, vanilla or cream cheese frosting. Toppings to choose from are graham crackers, Oreos, chocolate sprinkles, rainbow sprinkles, pink sugar crystals, M&M’s, gummy bears and sugar shapes (like crowns and sand pails). New for the LA County Fair will be the Cotton Candy cup cake – a cup cake topped with five inches of cotton candy! Sssssweet!
According to Connie, all cup cakes are frosted to order – fresh and to your liking! And she said the great thing about cup cakes is they cross all demographics. Whether you are young, old, short, tall – cup cakes appeal to everyone. I agree. So, girls, I’ll have a chocolate cup cake with vanilla butter cream frosting topped with M&M’s – just like Mom used to make me!
Sweet dreams!
