Hola amigos! The first of our four cultural festivals is now underway here at the Fair. Festival Latinoamericano de Arte y Folklore is taking place this weekend on the Plaza de las Americas. This celebration of the art, culture and history of Latin America has something for everyone. Today we saw acts on the Plaza de las Americas stage from Mexico, Nicaragua, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and the US! During the opening ceremony Assemblymember Norma Torres officially kicked off the programming.
Tomorrow you won’t want to miss Ballet Folklorico Viva Panama in the morning, the cumbia dancing of Omar y Stella in the afternoon and live music from Diamante Norteno closing out the evening. Monday’s acts include lots of ballet folklorico, Latin dancers from Slovakia, many other great dance acts and great musical performances.
Another Latin American treat is Sunday night, Sept. 4, when the Grandstand Concert will feature Mexican pop-rock superstar Gloria Trevi. She was described as the “Supreme Diva of the Mexican Pop” by VH1 and has sold over 20 million records.
Bring your sombrero and get down here for a great time.
