LACF Scavenger Hunt 2014

Dozens of prizes.
Eight locations.
Four days.
Two weekends.
It’s the LACF Scavenger Hunt!

Play with us August 2-3 and 16-17 to get your free LACF goodies.

How it works:
The LACF hosts will be hanging out in locations all over Los Angeles with goodies like Fair admission, concert tickets, LACF t-shirts, pins and other fun things, just for you!
Your mission, if you choose to accept it, is to find hidden LACF prizes throughout L.A. We will be posting photo clues on our Instagram account (@lacountyfair) to guide you to each location. You can also find these clues on our Facebook and Twitter.
Clues will be revealed every hour, on the hour beginning at 10 a.m. each day of the scavenger hunt. Only two LACF scavenger hunt locations will be active per day: one in the morning and one in the afternoon.
The Rules:
It can’t be a game without rules, right? It’s pretty simple:
1. Follow us on our social media channels for clues. Each clue will lead you closer to the location of the prize. We will be posting all of our clues on Instagram but you can follow along on Twitter and Facebook too! Track clues and document your journey using the hashtag #discoverLACF.
2. Get moving! Each clue leads you closer to the prize destination, getting more specific with each new photo. Make sure you take your selfies at each clue location!
3. Find the LACF host (we’ll announce who’s on deck for the day) and collect your prize! Remember, it’s first come, first serve. We will post a “secret” password on the final clue that you’ll need to show  to prove you’ve been playing. Once you collect your prize, it’s yours to keep. Don’t forget to share your win on social media using #discoverLACF!
Happy hunting!

Behind-the-Scenes: The Farm at LACF

Did you know we have a Farm that grows fresh herbs, fruits and vegetables that are used as ingredients for some of the amazing food you’ll taste at LACF?
We are not your average farm. Our LACF hosts explored the ins and outs of everything the Farm has to offer, eating their way through delicious samples of our fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs.

Haley and Arthur met with Fairplex head horticulturalist Don Delano, who is responsible for cultivating his enormous garden full of unusual crops like squash and chocolate-infused mint. At the Fair, people will not only be able to view these plants, but also indulge in yummy treats with cooking demonstrations.
At the Farm Kitchen, head chef David Teig treated our hosts Trent and Kara to freshly baked flatbread grilled with farm-fresh vegetables picked onsite at the Farm. Topped with figs, arugula, cherry tomatoes, prosciutto and cheese, the hosts’ tastebuds were overwhelmed with the deliciousness of Chef Teig’s creation as they sank into foodie bliss.
Fortunately, it’s not just our hosts that have the opportunity to taste Farm Kitchen dishes. Everyone can try the flatbread at LACF.
We invite you to use all of your senses to soak in the full Farm experience. So look, smell and eat up! Don’t forget to add the Farm to your LACF bucket list!

Meet your Los Angeles County Fair Hosts!

There’s all kinds of wonder to discover at the Los Angeles County Fair! In fact, there’s so much to do, see, taste and experience that it can be overwhelming to try to do it all in one day.
Our new LACF Hosts will help you out by taking you through all the attractions, food and entertainment we have in store for you this year, giving you a behind-the-scenes view of everything that happens at the Fair.
Without further ado, meet our LACF Hosts for 2014!
LACF Hosts
Arthur, music lover and accent extraordinaire, does cartoon voice-overs and stand-up comedy throughout Los Angeles.
He can’t wait to check out all the entertainment happening at LACF, from the tribute bands to the End of Concert Summer Series line-up.
Haley is not only a gymnast, but also has a black belt in martial arts. She may have gotten her acting bug doing musical theater in high school, but these days she also works as a stunt double.
She can’t wait to see what adventurous things there are to do at the Fair.

Kara is super famous in China. No, really, she is. Raised in Southern California, Kara just spent the last few years overseas acting in various Chinese programs. She’s also a major foodie and an expert on all things edible. If there’s something new and delicious to try at LACF, she’s all about it.

Trent joins us from Texas (can you hear the remnants of his accent?) but is definitely making progress in becoming a true Angeleno. He teaches kids soccer by day, and does improv and stand-up by night.
He can’t wait to check out the new craft beer tasting classes at the Fair this year.
Check the blog and our other social media channels as our hosts take you on their behind-the-scenes discoveries. And come meet Arthur, Haley, Kara and Trent at the Los Angeles County Fair!

She’s earned more than 15 major music awards, including four wins for Female Vocalist of the Year from the Country Music Association and three wins for Top Female Vocalist from the Academy of Country Music. She also just released a new cookbook titled “Around the Table.”

He’s been called the new hat in town by Rolling Stone . His self-titled Broken Bow Records debut hit No. 1 on Billboards’ Top Country Albums chart and the lead single, “Cowboys and Angels,’ exceeded platinum followed by “She Cranks My Tractor,” which became a No. 1 video on GAC’s Top 20 Country Countdown and then came “Where It’s At.” We’re glad he’s here, enjoy the show.

Fair-y Tale Wedding Theme Preview – Paul & Amy

Paul proposed to Amy four years ago with plans to get married the following year. Three months before their wedding day, Paul was called to active duty in the Middle East.
He returned to the States last year but the couple decided to put their wedding on hold until they could pay off student loans and other bills.
They don’t have to wait any longer, thanks to the Fair-y Tale Wedding contest!
Their wedding will take place on the gorgeous hillsides of Luminasia.

Luminasia: Paul & Amy

Luminasia is a beautiful landscape of flowers, animals, pagodas and world-famous landmarks, all made from brightly colored custom Chinese lanterns. Our creative team used that as inspiration for a beautiful color palette of jewel tones including rich reds, royal purple and cream colors.

A preview of Luminasia

Luminasia is a colorful world of larger-than-life Chinese lanterns replicating famous world landmarks, icons of Los Angeles, Chinese myths and legends, flora, fauna and animals of the land and sea. For more information on Luminasia and our other LACF attractions, visit

LACF Sneak Peek: Hall of Heroes

One of the exhibits we’re most excited about this year is the new Hall of Heroes exhibition!

“Autobots, roll out!”

You’ll discover what your own superhero strengths are (powers of the mind, body, technology etc.), walk through the history of real-life heroes and come face-to-face with some of your favorite superheroes. Those are just a few of the things we have in store for Hall of Heroes and the rest of LACF. Check back on the blog as we get closer to Opening Day for updates!

A sneak peek of the new DIY Design Studio

LACF is adding a new component to the do-it-yourself (DIY) and culinary competitions this year with the brand-new DIY Design Studio.
Upon entering, guests feel as if they have stepped into the virtual world of Pinterest, surrounded by DIY workshops and entries submitted by other Fairgoers. Our creative team is busy putting it all together and took us on a quick tour of the soon-to-be studio. After seeing it for ourselves, we can vouch that this will be every crafter’s paradise.
LACF DIY Design Studio Halloween Corner With Halloween just a few months after the Fair ends, guests can see DIY witch’s brews, pumpkins, trick o’ treat bags and other fun Halloween home decor ideas.
Down another hall are Christmas trees and fun holiday displays. Live workshops will be held in the studio including lessons in jewelry making, quilting, knitting and tablescaping.
Pops of orange, blue, green, fuchsia and other bright hues set the tone for the studio. Inspiration can be gleaned from every corner, from workroom accessory ideas to color schemes and practical decor for your laundry room.
DIY Design Studio Laundry Corner
“We don’t make anything you can’t make yourself,” Kathy Wadham, director of creative programming said. “You can be creative without spending money, and that’s what we want to show you here.”
We can’t wait to see the completed project come Fair time!

Fair-y Tale Wedding Theme Preview – Darius & Clevette

It’s not often that we see East Coasters visit LACF, but that’s exactly what Darius and Clevette want for their Fair-y Tale Wedding!
Although Darius has never been to the Fair before, Clevette shares fond childhood memories with us. They are excited to bring their families from both coasts to LACF for their wedding day.
Darius and Clevette have been dating for seven years and they are excited to exchange vows in less than two months! Keep reading to see what we have planned for their wedding.

Picnic Hill: Darius & Clevette

Los Angeles County Fair wedding

Our creative team envisioned a fun woodland wedding for Darius & Clevette, in the Picnic Hill venue space. Staying true to its namesake, the venue will be transformed into a mishmash of checkered cloth designs, wildflowers and picnic basket party favors.

Los Angeles County Fair Weddings

The Picnic Hill wedding theme includes soft, warm colors that are perfect for the oncoming autumn months, savory and sugary treats, picnic basket goodies and comfy, woodsy details that are perfect for their intimate ceremony.

Picnic Hill overlooks the carnival, shopping vendors, Mojo’s Wild & Crazy Lagoon and the Sky Ride as it goes down Broadway. Typically Picnic Hill is used for company picnics and as a nice respite from the heat of the day.

Our Creative team will be transforming this quiet, grassy area into a romantic, picnic-themed wedding for Darius & Clevette. We can’t wait to see the final product!

Stay tuned to see how Paul & Amy’s wedding plans are coming along and for the down low on what new attractions are coming to LACF this year.

Behind-the-Scenes: DIY Design Studio Entries

Each year hundreds of LACF guests submit their do-it-yourself (DIY) creations to be displayed for our 1.5 million visitors. Entries include a colorful mixture of jewelry, paintings, photography, quilts, knitting and sewing creations, home decor items and seasonal arts & crafts.
We stopped by the brand new DIY Design Studio (formerly Tapestry) to see what treasures will be at LACF this year. Watch the video to see how it all works:

Coming up later this week: a tour of the new workshops and exhibits within the DIY Design Studio. Our creative team has done an excellent job with the new attraction!

Fair-y Tale Wedding Theme Preview – Alvaro & Jessica

Meet Alvaro & Jessica, one of the couples getting married at LACF this year!
This couple’s Fair-y Tale Wedding takes place at The Farm. Their wedding will take place on the last weekend of the Fair, exactly nine years after their very first date!
For Alvaro and Jessica we chose a  at rustic theme, incorporating soft pastels, lace, and other elements to bring a romantic, outdoorsy wedding to life.

The Farm: Alvaro & Jessica

The light colors are a perfect fit for a balmy September morning wedding at The Farm.

The cake table and refreshment table will be surrounded by flowers and mason jars.

Lace-covered tables made out of crates and barrels, drinks served in mason jars and cupcakes served on top of teacups are just some of the ideas circling in our creative department for this theme. We can’t wait to celebrate with Alvaro and Jessica! Stay tuned for updates on their wedding and for other Fair-y Tale sneak peeks!
