Let’s be honest for a second, yeah?

I love shopping. You love shopping. We all love shopping!

So, if that’s the case, why not come to the LA County Fair and do all of your shopping in ONE place? Forget about going to multiple stores like we usually do when we’re looking for last minute gifts… we really do have everything you need!

In addition to all of the outside vendors, we also have four large shopping centers that include: Buildings 4, 6, 7 and 9. There, you will find dozens of booths to look at, things to taste, clothes to admire, and jewelry to try on. We like to think of it as our Shopping Wonderland!

Earlier this week, we walked through our shopping buildings to see what kinds of products were available to you, and boy were we surprised at all of the options. During our walk, we saw a lot of C R A Z Y  F A B U L O U S things, but we decided to focus on clothing, accessories, household items and toys – you know, the top 4 products that you, our Fair guests, have asked to see in our buildings year after year.

Since we know most of you enjoy picnics, jewelry and buying things for your homes, we decided to partner with American Home Remodeling, Correas Wholesale and PicnicPal to bring you one very special LACF giveaway:

LACF Shopping Wonderland Giveaway

4 Any-Day Admission Tickets
12 Single RCSFun carnival rides
1 LACF Swag Basket, provided by Correas Wholesale
1 PicnicPal - Food Protective Tent
1 Brand New Shower Head System, provided by American Home Remodeling

To enter, leave a comment below telling us your favorite products at our Shopping Wonderland! The winner will be announced Friday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m. PST.

Here is what we saw during our walk through the buildings:):

Bottoms Up

Are you one of those people who loves beer?  Did you know that LACF offers beer tasting classes?

Because they do!

You can find the class in the Beer, Wine, and Spirits Marketplace, attached to the Flower and Garden Pavilion.  Classes take place at noon, and are $15 per person.  Jason Torres leads the beer tasting classes, explaining the difference between craft and micro brewed beer, and the flavorful distinctions of IPA, Pale, and Porter brews (among others).  He also introduces students to some market lingo (Such at ‘Tap takeover’), and the correct way to drink the beverage.

Paired with these tasty brews are different food catered by local companies.  Today’s delicious sliders were courtesy of Brew & Meatball Company.  One of their tasty mini burgers was made with Wagu beef, which they also serve at their restaurant.

Just remember, you must be 21 or older to take part in these amazing (and shockingly educational) classes.

Have a favorite beer or beer and food pairing?  Tell me in the comments below!

Cupcake Crazy

Sooo good!

September 12th was the annual fair Cupcake Contest, and wow, did all the entries look delicious.  Contestants submitted their recipes in July, all of which were homemade with ingredients you can find at your local stores (Them’s the rules!).  On the big day, each contestant brought six delectable offerings for this year’s judges.

Regina Young, Marissa Ceja, Carlos Velesqez, and Laurie Brandler were our four distinguished experts for today’s event.  All four were beyond pleased to take part, and were full of smiles throughout the event.

Participants were graded on four different aspects, of varying importance:

  • Overall Taste                        40%
  • Originality/Creativity             30%
  • Appearance/Presentation     20%
  • Ease of preparation              10%

After sampling from each of the 11 contestants, the judges picked three outstanding examples of this culinary delight.

In 3rd place, with her light and fluffy Lemon Blueberry with Lemon Buttercream cupcake, is April Burton!

2nd place goes to Pepper Parker, with her scrumptious Banana Pudding cupcakes.

The coveted 1st place is awarded to Monine Zerby, for her Boozy Caramel Apple cupcake.  Need I say more?  All participants then began a cupcake trading bonanza, and who could blame them, with all of the entries looking so mouth watering?

If you think you have what it takes to be top baker here at the fair, check in online for next year’s entry forms.  Who knows, it could be you taking home that colorful Rosette with your cupcake supreme~!

Labor Day Weekend Recap

Happy Labor Day, everyone! Whether you are at the beach, in Vegas or at the greatest Fair in the world (yes, we are referring to the LA County Fair!), we hope you are having a blast! It’s not every day that we get a three day weekend, so let’s continue to make the best of this special holiday!

If coming to the Fair is a family tradition, then we’re sure you would agree that we couldn’t have asked for better weather or entertainment on this Labor Day Weekend.

During the last three days, we have had sea lions kiss us, eaten over 10 different burgers and have seen some of our best Fair performances.

Here are some Labor Day Weekend highlights:

  • Even after seeing Luminasia last year and three days in a row this holiday weekend, we were still in complete awe! Judge for yourself…
  • The Laker Girls came out to the Toyota tent on Saturday for signing of autographs and photos.
  • We saw how kids hung out and played with all of our loving Farm animals.
  • On Friday, we kicked off our End of Summer Concert Series with Patti LaBelle and Chaka Khan. These two lovely ladies blew it out of the park with soulful performances. We hope Chaka Khan enjoyed her break from Dancing with the Stars!

  • We totally geeked out over the life-size Batmobile and the Tron motorcycle at our newest exhibit, Popnology.
  • We stopped and ate at pretty much every food stand there was. And, of course, we had to start with dessert!
  • We took your advice and stopped by The Millard Sheet Art Center where The Art Classic exhibit is featuring 10 local artists and their mind-bending artwork!
  • Charlie Wilson joined us on Saturday evening for a one-of-a-kind performance! It was great seeing hundreds of people singing and dancing to Wilson’s music.

  • We stopped by Mojo’s Wild & Crazy Lagoon where we saw dozens of exotic animals, like this one!
  • Our LACF guests had a taste of rock on Sunday when Alejandra Guzman hit the stage. She moved, sang and spoke like a true Rock Star…it was A W E S O M E!

  • We took a field trip to New Orleans at our Mardi Gras themed Flower & Garden Pavilion.
  • Right before closing on Sunday, we hit up the carnival and rode the bull, played a few games and got on a few rides. Let me tell you…the cool breeze in our faces felt great!
  • Don’t think for one second this is all we have for you! Skillet & for King & Country are performing tonight – and we could not be any more ready to rock out on a Monday evening! Hope you’re joining us.

Remember, this is just the beginning! We can’t wait to see what else comes our way this Fair season!
