Run for the Fair Culinary Competition

Contestants dashed around the fair to compete in our Chopped-style Run for the Fair contest tonight, and the results were delicious.

Six fair guests were given two mystery ingredients, puff pastry and bacon, and $10 in food vouchers to make an appetizer. Contestants had 30 minutes to shop for food from vendors and then had 15 minutes to create their dishes.

The creativity was flowing!

In first place: Laura Whisler

In Second Place: Bouakeo Mertz

In Third Place: Erik Mortensen

Dishes were awarded based on 50% creativity and 50% appearance. The top three received monetary prices. First: $75, Second: $50, Third: $25.

Winners from left to right:  Laura Whisler, Bouakeo Mertz, Erik Mortensen.

Fair guests will have another opportunity to partake in this fast-paced culinary competition on Sept. 22nd at 7 p.m. The contest will be dessert themed.

Dare to Fair!

America’s Kids Gets Ready for the Fair

The America’s Kids exhibit provides a creative and educational space for children at the LA County Fair year after year. We got a sneak peak of the fun our creative team has in store for September, and we’re happy to share it with you!

Sets are getting a fresh coat of paint and walls will soon be filled with amazing Lego creations. All of the Lego sets submitted for the competition will also be on display throughout the fair, so get ready to be wowed.

Hundreds of Legos are waiting to be put together… by you! There will be an open play area with building tables and we can’t wait to see what amazing creations are built there.

But the Lego area is just a small part of what America’s Kids has to offer. A knight’s castle, a doll house and more game areas give the kids a hands-on experience so they can have fun while they learn. So, parents, come enjoy the air conditioning, while your kids have the time of their lives.

When Disney met LACF

Today we had a very special guest visit Popnology.

Bob Gurr, one of the original Imagineers for the Walt Disney Company, stopped by to say hello to fans! Even if you’ve never heard of Bob, you have definitely experienced his work.

Bob is one of the masterminds behind Disneyland classics like Autopia, the Haunted Mansion, Matterhorn Bobsleds, and the Disneyland Monorail just to name a few.

We were thrilled to have one of the Disney greats check our Popnology exhibit, and it was quite a mind-bender to see him posing by models of the very attractions he designed!

Just another wonderful afternoon at the Fair…

The Engines Roar

Can you hear that rumble?

It’s coming from Thunder Alley, sponsored by the NHRA Motorsports Museum, and back by popular demand!

If you love anything fuel injected, engine exposed, or are just into gorgeous classic style cars, why are you still reading this?  Owners and former racers bring their babies for you to see and marvel at.

Have a seat in the helicopter on display at the Air Force Flight Museum, and gawk or gaze in wonder at the other machinery and flying marvels they’ve brought for you to see.  Don’t worry….nothing is armed!

Marvel at the dragsters, both the ones for adults, and those made for children!  I have to admit, the thought that 10-year-olds are going up to 85 miles per hour makes me wonder what I’ve been doing with my life!

Other exhibits include military vehicles, Drag safaris, trucks, and even boats!

Remember, Thunder Alley drives off into the sunset on our last day, September 27th.  Speed (not really!) on down before they’re gone!!
