With only two days of Fair left, it’s safe to say we’ve tried nearly every food item there is to try here (although there are some we haven’t reached yet… 1,200 choices are a lot to choose from.)
For this week’s Fair Food Friday, we are taking you through the most decadent, indulgent, sweetest, gooiest, craziest Fair foods we have had so far. Check it out!
Fair Food Friday: Dare To Indulge
1. Gourmet Milkshakes
Served in a mason jar, these super sweet, delicious treat is customized to your personal preferences. Whether you prefer whipped cream and a cherry on top, or crunched cookies mixed into your shake, there are a number of options to choose from.
2. Ice Cream
There are a number of places you can buy ice cream here at the Fair, and each stand has their own specialty, but we can guarantee you that all of them will leave your sweet tooth satisfied and reaching a sugar high in no time. We recommend Dr. Bob’s and Old Time Ice Cream for starters!
3. Texas-Size Donuts
These donuts are literally the size of your face. Served in a number of colors, sprinkles, and flavors, you won’t find these at your local Krispy Kreme! The only question is, do you share with your friends and dare to try and eat it all by yourself?
4. Chicken & Waffle On A Stick
Chicken Charlie NEVER fails to create something new, fun, and absolutely delicious at the Fair! While there are a number of items we could choose from (deep-fried bacon s’mores for one…), we had to go with the Chicken & Waffle On A Stick invention!
These are just a few of the amazing foods to try here at the Fair. There are tons of other indulgent choices, like the Dino Rib, bacon-wrapped pork belly, Mexican funnel cake and all the other delicious things we’ve covered in our past Fair Food Friday posts.
But enough from us… what were your favorite Fair foods this year?by
Earlier this year we covered some of our favorite Fair food items, including the Affogato as a top dessert choice.
Now that we’ve had a few days to sink our teeth (literally) into the rest of our Fair food, we’ve compiled a list of our must-try desserts. Take a look, take a taste:
1. Deep-fried Bacon S’mores (Chicken Charlie’s)
Nothing could have prepared us for the decadent heaven that is Chicken Charlie’s deep-fried s’more. Marshmallow and chocolate, perfect offset by savory bacon bits makes this an easy top pick for our sweet tooth cravings. Find it at any of Charlie’s booths at the Fair!
2. Candied Apples (Terri’s Berries)
Terri’s Berries features a colorful array of fruit treats, like chocolate-dipped strawberries, fruit smoothies, and one of our favorites — the candied apple! Find it right across from Chicken Charlie’s off of Broadway & Palm!
3. Mexican Funnel Cake
There are churros. There are funnel cakes. And then there’s this thing called the Mexican Funnel Cake and it is the best of both worlds and then some. Find it on Broadway near the Longboard Bar!
4. Bucket of Cookies (Cathy’s Cookies)
A simple idea, but a genius one. Instead of buying a singular chocolate chip cookie, why not buy a whole bucket? Because you can never have enough freshly baked cookies! Visit Cathy’s Cookies on The Farm Road for some good old-fashioned chocolate chip cookies (by the bucket!)
5. Dr. Bob’s Ice Cream
We would be remiss if we didn’t give a shout-out to the timeless Dr. Bob’s ice cream! Located near the Big Red Barn, Dr. Bob’s sundaes, cones and other sweets are one of our must haves at every Fair. Sometimes more than once in one season!
Other favorites: Cotton candy, soft-serve ice cream, the churro gelato sandwich, gourmet milkshakes, Chicken Charlie’s deep-fried Oreos and Klondike bars and, of course, the affogato from Fried-A-Fair.

In just 10 days the 2016 LA County Fair opens! That means deep-fried dinners and afternoon treats almost every day in September for us. Take a look at just a few of our newest Fair foods:
This is one of our top dessert picks this year. Creamy, cold gelato paired with a shot of espresso means a sugar AND caffeine high. We sampled it when we visited the San Diego fair earlier this year.
Deep-Fried Hot Sauce
Every year Chicken Charlie creates a new deep-fried food, just for the LA County Fair. This year it’s Deep-Fried Hot Sauce. He gave us a sample to try and all we have to say is, YUM. This is definitely a must-try.
Of course, we’re not all batter, cheese and sugar. We’re also serving up harvest bowls, salads, and vegan nachos, tacos and burritos, along with a number of other healthy options, if that’s what you prefer!
We want you to try all these food for yourself, which is why we’re hosting a Fair Food Giveaway!

HOW is Fair 2015 almost over? It seems like only yesterday we were standing in awe of Popnology, walking through Luminasia, and trying Chicken Charlie’s newest deep-fried food.
And yet somehow, four weeks later, we are here at the end of another great run, with a ton of awesome memories to look back on. Here are some of our favorite Fair shots that you all posted:

#3. Okay, so he didn’t actually visit the Fair, but we are so happy Snow the Shepherd got a little doughnut-love from us after his mom came home

Dozens of bloggers and media personnel got a sneak peek of our new food items at our LA County Fair Food Media Preview! Gourmet hot dogs, Deep-Fried Guacamole and some classics from Chicken Charlie’s and Tasti Chips were all available!
Since there was a lot of construction and preparation going on for Opening Day, a section of the Fairgrounds was blocked for our lovely media who included LA Times, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, La Nueva Voz, Claremont Courier, iHeartMedia, Los Angeles News Group, IEShineOn, Mommy Bloggers and so many more!
Here are some pictures of today’s event:
The LA County Fair is almost here again!
Which foods are you most excited to try?
Will the next deep-fried food trend please stand up?
Being die-hard fans of the LA County Fair, we are quite familiar with all things deep-fried, bacon-covered, battered, buttered and gift-wrapped in a package of fat and sugar.
Naturally, we wonder what the next big deep-fried concoction will be. Last year, Chicken Charlie won our hearts with his savory deep-fried zucchinis and Totally Fried Doritos.
Elsewhere, other Fairs were cooking up deep-fried brisket, fried pumpkin spice Oreos and deep-fried sweet tea.
Our question, as we dig deeper into planning for the 2015 LACF, is this: what will the next deep-fried food trend be? A deep-fried Philly cheesesteak? Deep-fried Nutella covered doughnuts? (Yes please!)
It’s hard to say what the next big thing will be, but we are all about “it”, whatever “it” looks like in the deep-fried scheme of things.
What food item would you choose to deep fry? Tell us in the comments section below!by
Fair employees are at the Fair every day. They walk by the deep-fried goodies at Chicken Charlies, smell the smoke emanating from turkey legs and are exposed to Dip n’ Dots, Pink’s Hot Dogs, 10-pound buns, kettle corn, cotton candy and corn dogs on a daily basis.
You may think you’re indulging when you spend a day eating Fair food, but what about those of us who actually work on the Fairgrounds? Sure we eat our veggies, fruits, protein and complex carbs, but you can bet we like to treat ourselves to Fair food heaven every now and again too.
Don’t believe us? Here’s proof
What’s a Fair without a food-eating competition? Since Chicken Charlie debuted the Krispy Kreme cheeseburger this year, we thought it would be fun to have a little food eating competition among our Fairguests. That includes you.
We, the L.A. County Fair, challenge you to the Fair Food Frenzy competition to see who can eat a Krispy Kreme cheeseburger the fastest. Two glazed doughnuts. 2 slices of cheese. 2 burger patties. 1 winner.
If you win, not only will you have the title of the 2013 Fair Food Master, you will receive a VIP Weekend for 2 at the Sheraton Fairplex Hotel. This includes a Club Level Suite, VIP welcome amenities, access to Club Level Lounge, breakfast for two and event appetizers in the club and a Farm-to-Table Dinner for two at McKinley’s Restaurant.
Challenge accepted, Fair fans?
To enter, email your name, age, phone number and hometown to LAFairFoodFrenzy@gmail.com. Entrants must be age 18 or over and must be present at the Fair competition. The Fair Food Frenzy will be held on Fairgrounds at 1 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 27.
Fair contestants will have VIP parking and free entrance to the Fair.
Best of luck!by
Last year Chicken Charlie brought the debut of deep-fried cookie dough. Novelty runs high every year at the Fair, and 2013 is no different!
If you’re planning on pigging out with deep-fried Kool-Aid, Oreos, cereal and any other number of yum, you might want to save room for these guys:
And the creme de la creme of all sticky, gooey, sweet, rich Chicken Charlie creations:
Which of Chicken Charlie’s dishes are you excited to try? I for one, am leaning towards the waffle dogs. We hope you’re excited for the L.A. County Fair! It’ll be here very soonby
