Tick-Tock…Fair is Coming to an End + GIVEAWAY [CONTEST CLOSED]

By now I’m sure many of you have already visited the Fair at least once, but for those of you who haven’t taken the time to #DARETOFAIR, continue reading as I go over the top 5 things to do at the 2016 LA County Fair.

1)      Indulge – We love food and know you do too! With such concoctions as deep-fried hot sauce, chicken IN waffles (served on a stick), spaghetti ice cream, guacamole balls – battered and fried, bacon-wrapped everything and the belly-buster Krispy Kreme triple cheeseburger, take the day off and eat. Don’t fight it. The Fair only comes around once a year.

2)      Roar! – The LA County Fair takes you back 65 million years with life-sized dinosaurs roaming the hillside behind the Flower & Garden Pavilion. Jurassic Planet features 35 animatronic creatures from the mighty T-Rex to the lovable Maiasaura, so realistic you’ll truly think you’ve stepped back in time. Everyone becomes amateur paleontologists with a dino dig pit and fossil hunting. A real paleontologist is on hand to answer any and all questions. A nominal admission fee required for ages 6 and older.

3)      OUR BODY: The Universe Within – Go under the skin of human anatomy – literally! – with this fascinating, educational exhibit of 200 uniquely preserved human specimens offering a vibrant, 3D view of our bodies usually reserved just for doctors.

4)      The Igloo – Chill-out in our Arctic Village with Polar Ice Rink* and Penguin Sled Run* made with real ice and snow!  Shop the Arctic Promenade for cool products and come back after 6pm for an all-ages dance party featuring DJ Cool and periodic snow storms.  *. A nominal admission fee required for ages 6 and older.

5)      The Farm – One of the favorite attractions at the LA County Fair, The Farm features a five-acre organic urban garden and the Big Red Barn, home to familiar and not-so-familiar barnyard critters. Children (and adults) love hanging out with our sheep, pigs, goats, chickens and cows.

Fair Snapshot: Hanging Out At The Carnival

One of the joys of working at the Fair is hanging out at the carnival every single day that we’re open. And like many of our guests, my favorite time of the day to chill at the carnival is when the sun sets and it gets cooler. Something about feeling the cool breeze in my face as I fly around brings back lots of childhood memories.

Fair Snapshot: Carousel at Night

As much as I love the three new carnival rides, the Ferris Wheel and the Kiddie Carnival, I needed to close out the last Wednesday of the 2015 Fair season with something special.

This is precisely why I decided to end the night at our beloved Carousel.

Enjoy the picture I took as I waited for my turn to get on my all-time favorite amusement park / Fairground ride! :)

Last Week of Fair! (Are you ready?)

Wednesday is the start of our last week of the 2012 Fair. This month just flew by; it seems like only yesterday that we were opening the gates, setting up the rides and exhibits and starting on the blogging for the season. Whether you are visiting us for the first time or one last time this year there are a couple things you should know about the last week:

1. If you’re all about the thrills at the Fair make sure to take advantage of our “All You Can Ride Wednesday” promotion–$25 gets you admission into the Fair AND unlimited access to the carnival rides. Click here for more details.

2. Friday is the final portion of Battle of the Bands! 8 of the 19 original high school/college contenders remain and will compete for cash prizes and a coveted spot at the 2013 Vans Warped Tour. Come out and support your favorites at the Coca-Cola Stage and find out who wins!

3. UCLA Day is this Saturday! If you’re a Bruins fan come out, watch the game and enjoy a Saturday with fellow alumni, faculty and/or classmates :)

4. Whether its the rides, the animals, the shows or the shopping that you want to squeeze in, this is your last chance to do it! Just don’t go as crazy as these guys did… or well, maybe you can.

The Countdown Begins

There are 101 days left until opening day of the L.A. County Fair – but who’s counting? Well, we are actually! While a countdown to the big day creates some anxiety, at a certain point we all start doing it. Pretty soon our Web site will have a daily counter (which really drives us crazy, seeing it right before our eyes!). So, since we are counting down, we should make it worthwhile and remind ourselves what we are counting down to:

  • Hot Dog on a Stick
  • Giant slide
  • 72 totally excellent rides
  • 2 kiddie carnivals
  • Hot Dog on a Stick
  • A luscious Flower & Garden Pavilion featuring Escape to Hawaii
  • An erupting volcano! How cool is that! (This is so Krakatoa of us!)
  • Watusi cattle – these always amaze me, cattle with huge horns – up to seven feet in length. They look like Tim Curry’s character in the movie “Legend.”
  • Hot Dog on a Stick (can you tell I love these?)
  • A gallery exhibit dedicated to the horse in art
  • America’s Kids’ “Wild Things” Backyard Fun exhibit

There is so much. I’ll keep adding to my list.
