The history of Route 66 is a nostalgic road trip of iconic highway attractions, neon signs, Wigwam motels and all the kitsch that makes up the vanishing American roadside. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year\u2019s fair theme Get Your Kicks&#8230;at the La County Fair will take all of our visitors on a tour down the Mother Road! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Route 66 has cultural significance to the West Coast and the history of the United States. It was originally used by those who migrated west during the dust bowl in the 1930s and during the Great Depression. The trip begins in Chicago, Illinois and takes you through Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, New Mexico, Arizona and ends at the famous Santa Monica pier in California. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Earlier this year, our President &amp; CEO Miguel Santana took a trip down the #MotherRoad! He shared with us his favorite places to visit off the Route! <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you are thinking of taking the trip this year, here are some of his favorite stops! His trip took 6 days but you can take up to two weeks if you have more time. <\/span><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Illinois: You don\u2019t want to miss the historic markers of the beginning of your journey. Get your camera ready to capture the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadsideamerica.com\/tip\/27039\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Route 66 Begin sign<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">! We also paid a visit to <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mlb.com\/cubs\/ballpark\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Wrigley Field<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and took a tour to learn more about this historic place! <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After traveling through Missouri and Oklahoma we arrived in Galena, Kansas here you will find the iconic<\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.kansastravel.org\/4womenontheroute.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> Kan-O-Tex Gas Station<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">! This gas station is what inspired the character Tow Mater in the Disney movie Cars. <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Head on over to Texas and stop at the world-famous <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.roadsideamerica.com\/story\/2220\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Cadillac Ranch in Amarillo<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0It has become a ritual site for those who travel the Mother Road. If you want to leave your mark at this stop make sure and BYOSP (Bring your own spray paint)!<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The fun continues in the Land of Enchantment: New Mexico. New Mexico is a <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">mecca for iconic churches and cathedrals; you can find a full listing <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.newmexico.org\/things-to-do\/arts-culture\/historic-cathedrals\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Make sure you <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">visit <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lagunapueblo-nsn.gov\/Laguna_Church.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Saint Joseph\u2019s Church in Pueblo of Laguna<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Once you are in California you will pass through Yermo and there you can visit <\/span><a href=\"http:\/\/cms.sbcounty.gov\/parks\/Parks\/CalicoGhostTown.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Calico Ghost Town<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.
