My name\u2019s Renee<\/span><\/strong>,<\/span> also known as the Fair-ey Blogster<\/strong><\/span> (stop laughing). I\u2019m a writer in the marketing and communications department of the Fair, but more than that I am a HUGE fan of the Fair \u2013 always have been. As a native of the Inland Valley, the Fair is like my own mini-Happiest Place on Earth, something to really look forward to at the end of every summer. Now that I work here, I\u2019m amazed (still!) at what goes into putting this 18-day extravaganza together each year. This new blog offers you a pipeline to all the behind the scenes frenzy and a constant 411 on what awaits you at the largest county fair in the country. \"\"<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n
\u00a0To start off, I want to remind all you artists, photogs, cooks, potters and quilters of all ages that the deadlines for entries into our vast array of contests and competitions are coming up. One of the best parts of the Fair is having the opportunity to display your work\/craft and possibly win a blue ribbon for thousands to see. Since I started seven fairs ago, I\u2019ve written about and photographed some great events \u2013 the annual SPAM competition, kids\u2019 cooking contests<\/span> <\/strong><\/a>and amazing handmade quilts<\/strong><\/span><\/a>. The deadline for the Millard Sheets Center for the Arts<\/strong><\/span> photography competition<\/strong> <\/span><\/a>is May 16, so I hope you got your stuff in. The center is planning another photo competition \u2013 Paw Prints \u2013 featuring your best photos of your dog, or any dog. That competition is in conjunction with our Bark Park<\/strong><\/span> <\/a>feature (all things dog). \u00a0<\/span>For the kids competitions<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the deadline is Aug. 1, and we have so many cool things for kids to enter this year \u2013 decorate a butterfly<\/span><\/strong><\/a>, <\/span><\/strong>design a sock monster<\/span><\/strong> <\/a>(put those stinky gym socks to good use!) or write a great story about your personal backyard adventure. In the Village on Broadway<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, the culinary<\/strong><\/span><\/a> and arts & cr<\/strong><\/a><\/span><\/a> <\/a>division of the Fair, there is cultural cooking<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, all-American pie, quilting<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, <\/strong><\/span>pottery<\/strong><\/span><\/a>, and my favorite \u2013 the best chocolate chip cookie.
