AXC Hosts Pinewood Derby

Last month AXC/Petersen Garage had the pleasure of hosting Scout Pack 415 and their Pinewood Derby!

Fairplex TLC AXC 1024x768 AXC Hosts Pinewood Derby

Normally our garage is filled with high school students from the Career & Technical Education Center’s automotive program. It was fun to switch things up and watch a good old-fashioned Cub Scout derby.

If you don’t know what the Pinewood Derby is, here’s the scoop: The Pinewood Derby has been a part of the Cub counts / Boy Scouts since 1953, with nearly 100 million participants to date!

Cub Scouts work with their parent or mentor to build custom race cars, including the design, paint, decals and more. Their cars then race in heats of 2-4 cars on a downhill track leading to the finish line.

Derby cars can actually reach a speed of nearly 20 mph and, if enlarged to the size of a real vehicle, would be speeding at more than 200 mph!

We were happy to provide the venue for Pack 415′s derby. Thanks to our team for making this happen!

Thank You PVHMC!

Fairplex Snapshot: Moving The Wall That Heals

Fairplex Community WallThatHeals1 1024x768 Fairplex Snapshot: Moving The Wall That Heals The Wall That Heals” is a replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. designated to travel to communities throughout the United States.

This special memorial “provides thousands of veterans who have been unable to cope with the prospect of facing The Wall to find the strength and courage to do so within their own communities, thus allowing the healing process to begin.”

Lone Hill MIddle School in San Dimas is hosting the Wall until Sunday, and we have the honor of being part of the transportation process!

The Wall was stationed on our campus this morning, but has since traveled through the City of La Verne to Lone Hill with an escort of dozens of motorcycles and servicemen.

Volunteers and crew members are working to set up the Wall today and will be open to the public beginning tomorrow through Sunday. The Wall will be accessible at all hours for those who wish to visit.

Happy National Ag Day!

It’s National #AgDay! Today is all about celebrating the abundance provided by American agriculture. We want to take this time to say thank you to our Farm at Fairplex team.

Some of our volunteers and staff spending time with the Girl Scouts

Both the staff and volunteers work hard all year long to grow new crops, integrate the best sustainability practices, and take care of our farm animals. They also act as teachers for school field trips, special community programs, and tour guides during the LA County Fair.

Agriculture continues to be one of the most important industries in the nation and we are proud to be a part of it!
