Fairplex CEO Miguel Santana leads the way as we test out our bikes for the first time
This program serves as a model for environmentally friendly and healthy living practices on our campus, starting with this employee bike program.
Thanks to the addition of several new cruisers and mountain bikes, our employees will be able to bike around campus, both for work purposes (getting to meetings/events), and for pleasure on their lunch breaks!
We’re very excited to implement this new initiative, and we look forward to adding additional healthy living practices in the future.
Ever since our five-acre expansion, The Farm at Fairplex has served as a real-life classroom for students of all ages. Keep reading to see what programs you can join this summer:
Farm Field Trips: K-12 students are invited to take a field trip to The Farm. Students have the opportunity to learn about urban farming, animals, crops, product and farm economics, and the importance of nutritious, wholesome food. It’s a great way to introduce students to California’s rich agricultural past!
All our field trips include educational hands-on activities and are aligned with California Core Common Standards. For more information on our field trips, including registration info, availability and cost, click here.
Gardening Workshops: We’ve partnered with Green Media Creations to offer free community gardening classes this month!
Residents can learn how to remove turf from their yard and replace it with drought-tolerant plants. Topics include design considerations, soil preparation, irrigation systems and garden maintenance.
Classes are FREE, but registration is required. Choose between Friday, July 21, 6 – 8:30 p.m. or Saturday, July 29, 10 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Click here to register.

Our summer crops are doing great in The Farm at Fairplex! Five acres of fruits, vegetables and herbs, and our team is busy harvesting already. Take a look at what we’ve been up to over the past few weeks:
Our Farm team has been busy drying a number of fruits and vegetables for future use. The combi ovens are being used to dry peaches and nectarines, which will eventually be used for chili sauce and chili peach chips.
We’re also drying radishes, white turnips, daikon and Nero Tondo radishes. We’re soaking them in a simple marinade of teriyaki sauce, red wine vinegar, tumeric, cayenne pepper flakes and leftover peach and nectarine juice from our previous efforts at slicing and dying. Delicious!
In our nursery we’re growing a variety of herbs and vegetables: peppers, eggplants, cinnamon yams, sweet, purple, cinnamon Thai and lemon basil, chives and others.
We’ll be selling them to the public for $1.50 each! The Farm will be open Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. but please call us first at (909) 630-6965 to ensure availability.
These are just a few of the activities happening in The Farm right now. Add to that our Farm Dinners, the chickens, rabbits, turkey and quail, not to mention our preparations for the Fair and we have a full plate! Check back soon for more updates on our urban farm, or you can learn more at fairplex.com/farm!
