Holidays at Fairplex Part II: McKinley’s Grille

What does a 487-acre campus look like during the holidays? Festive of course! Countless Christmas trees, fake snow (this is LA County after all), thousands of twinkling lights and even a reindeer or two can be spotted throughout our enormous campus. Take a look at some of our favorite spots in this two part series:

Holidays at Fairplex Part II: McKinley’s Grille

Not to be outdone by the Conference Center, the Sheraton Hotel restaurant is equally decked out in holiday fun.

mckinleysgrille holiday 1 Holidays at Fairplex Part II: McKinleys Grille While the conference center takes on a slightly more glamorous look, McKinley’s Grille is quaint and woodsy, a perfect match for the farm-to-table dining offered there.

Fairplex Eats: Our Top Food Picks

Our campus is home to two restaurants: Finish Line Sports Bar & Grill and McKinley’s Grille. We’ve spent our fair share of time dining at both of these establishments and have tried enough of their menus to know which ones are our favorites.

Sure everyone’s tastes are different, but we HIGHLY recommend giving these dishes a try the next time you dine here:

McKinley’s Grille
Our favorite food picks from McKinley’s Grille include:

MKG Food asiago 300x289 Fairplex Eats: Our Top Food Picks 1. Asiago Cheese Bread

Gooey cheese, a freshly baked baguette, total indulgence. If you’re planning to treating yourself, this is the perfect appetizer to start with.

We recommend splitting with a friend, but to each their own! This food item was actually taken off the menu for awhile but was brought back due to popular demand.

turkey club feb 225x300 Fairplex Eats: Our Top Food Picks 2. Roasted Turkey Club Sandwich
Simple, yet totally satisfying, you can never go wrong with a club sandwich! We love the crunch from the toasted sourdough bread as flavors of bacon, avocado, tomato, aioli and crisp lettuce flood our mouths. We recommend pairing this sandwich with the sweet potato fries or kettle chips!

3. “The Farm” Green Salad

Warning: This isn’t your average garden salad. We had this for lunch a couple times during the Fair when we wanted a healthier option. This salad is light, fresh and full of vegetables freshly selected from the Farm at Fairplex.

veggies Fairplex Eats: Our Top Food Picks   Add grilled chicken or salmon and you have yourself a fulfilling, healthy meal! We have yet to be hungry after we’ve finished this meal.

3. Szechuan Tofu Stir Fry

MKG Food stirfry Fairplex Eats: Our Top Food Picks

Generally speaking, McKinley’s Grille doesn’t serve a lot of Asian fare, but this vegetarian dinner of Farm veggies, chowfoon noodles, crispy tofu and best of all, a spicy Hoison glaze is perfectly made and a go-to for our dinner.

5. Any Dr. Bob’s Dessert
Last, but never least is Dr. Bob’s Handcrafted Ice Cream. Whether its a single scoop or an entire sundae, if it’s Dr. Bob’s, we will never say no! McKinley’s Grille always has this tasty treat available for dessert — just ask for the flavor of the day.

Finish Line Sports Bar & Grill

1. Smoked Brisket Nachos

nachos 1024x1024 Fairplex Eats: Our Top Food Picks

There are nachos, and then there are FLSG nachos. This giant appetizer is a colorful mix of tortilla chips, jack and cheddar cheeses, black beans, sweet corn, pickled red onion, pico de gallo, sour cream and cilantro. It’s a great appetizer to share with the whole table, or if you’re hungry, enjoy as a meal. Let the feasting begin…

2. Beer Cheese Tater Tots

tater tots 300x300 Fairplex Eats: Our Top Food Picks

Cheese + bacon + tater tots = HEAVEN. Need we say more?

We like to split this hefty appetizer between 3-4 people. The beer cheese tater tots are full of savory, gooey, crunchy goodness and we have yet to be satisfied with just one bite.

*TIP: Pair this appetizer with one of the craft beers they have on tap — you’ll need a refreshing drink to keep you from falling into a food coma after this one!

3. Herb Seasoned Turkey Burger

turkey burger 1024x680 Fairplex Eats: Our Top Food Picks

While we’ll never say no to a good old-fashioned cheeseburger, this is (seriously) one of the best turkey burgers we have ever tasted. While some turkey patties seem dry and bland, the Finish Like version is full of rich juicy flavors, paired deliciously with bacon, smoked gouda cheese, herb mayo, red onion and pickle chips. Yes. Please.

cowboy burger 300x199 Fairplex Eats: Our Top Food Picks 4. Cowboy Burger

When we want to eat with total abandon, we always go for the Cowboy Burger. 1/2 lb beef patty, bacon (always bacon), aged cheddar cheese, BBQ sauce, red onion and to top it all off, beer battered onion rings. One word: delicious.

5. Signature Brownie Sundae

MKG FLSG brownie 1024x682 Fairplex Eats: Our Top Food Picks

As full we are by the end of our meal, it just wouldn’t be right to forgo dessert. Rounding out out indulgent food favorites is the Finish Line Signature Brownie Sundae. These freshly baked brownies are covered in vanilla bean ice cream, house made chocolate sauce, caramel, whipped cream, chopped peanuts and, of course, a cherry on top. We recommend splitting between 3-4 people.

Are you hungry yet? We are. Looks like we might have to visit both of these places for lunch this week!

Fairplex Weekend Recap: Easter Brunch at McKinley’s Grille

We enjoyed a peaceful weekend at Fairplex. McKinley’s Grille (our on-site restaurant) hosted the annual Easter brunch which was a blast!

Photo Mar 27 10 13 50 AM Fairplex Weekend Recap: Easter Brunch at McKinleys Grille

We took up most of the first floor of the hotel (no, really.) The lobby played host to our carved ham and lamb stations and our omelette station. The bar offered complimentary mimosas for 21+ crowd, as well as a build-your-own Bloody Mary bar which incorporated ingredients straight from The Farm.

The entrance to McKinley’s Grille served as our dessert bar and one of our smaller ballrooms served as the kiddie room: face painting, photos with the Easter Bunny and cartoons on a large screen.

Despite moving our seating to the patio and ballrooms, we still had a full house! It was fantastic to see so many guests eating and drinking with their families.

The weather was perfect, the food was delicious and our staff had a wonderful time helping out (smiles all around!) All in all, Easter brunch was definitely a success.

We’re already filling reservations for our Mother’s Day brunch. Make sure you save you and Mom a space before we’re full! Menu, pricing and additional info available here.
