Cheers: LA’s Wine, Spirits, Beer & Food Festival (June 25): The public unveiling of our wine, spirits, beer and extra virgin olive oil competition winners is this Saturday! Enjoy tastings of our award-winning entries, feast on food truck fare and dance the night away — all for a good cause! Proceeds from Cheers ticket sales benefit The Learning Centers at Fairplex. Relay For Life Pomona (June 25-26): The American Cancer Society Relay For Life will be at Fairplex this weekend. This fantastic event honors cancer survivors, remembers loved ones lost and raises funds and awareness to fight back against this disease. Online registration ends tonight, with on-site registration available the day of. Please visit their event page for more information.

Everybody’s Bird Mart (June 26): The birds are back in town this Sunday! Bird owners can shop treats, toys, accessories, cages, health supplements and other items for their feathered friends. More info at everybodysbirdmart.com.

Palates & Palettes (June 11): We’re ending spring / starting summer with another Palates & Palettes wine and paint session. This time we are learning to paint like Matisse, while enjoying food and wine from his homeland — the South of France. An RSVP is required. Please click here to claim your spot! 

Make Music Pasadena (June 11): Downtown Pasadena is hosting their annual Make Music festival this Saturday. Enjoy performances from multiple artists throughout the city, as well as food, drinks and shopping. Admission is free, all ages. For more info visit makemusicapasadena.dola.com

Downtown Pomona Art Walk (June 11): The City of Pomona is hosting their second-Saturday art walk this weekend. Enjoy extended hours at many restaurants, galleries and shops, while perusing the wares of local artists along the streets. More info at downtownpomona.org!

RailGiants Train Museum (June 11-12): The RailGiants Train Museum, located right here at Fairplex, is open to the public this weekend! Journey back in time as you hop aboard historic steam engines and speak with our docents. More info at railgiants.org. Admission and parking are free!

Fairplex Garden Railroad (June 12): The Fairplex Garden Railroad is one of the longest-standing exhibits of the Fair, and also one of the most dynamic. Our volunteers are constantly changing things up — creating new buildings, adding new trains and refurbishing scenery. Come check it out this Sunday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Admission and parking are free! L.A. Weekender: Memorial Day Weekend

The long weekend is here and many of you already have BBQs, picnics and vacations planned, but for those of us who are staying local, here are a few things happening around LA:

wood animal dog pet 1024x612 L.A. Weekender: Memorial Day Weekend Mission Circuit Dog Show (All Weekend): The Mission Circuit Dog Show will be at Fairplex all weekend long! Competitions will finish on Monday with top dog honors celebrated. More than 8,000 dogs are currently taking residence here so we’re in for quite the furry weekend! Giant RV Spring Show (May 27-June 5): Memorial Day Weekend marks the unofficial start of summer, and that means road trips galore. Visit the Giant RV Spring Show at Gate 9. The latest recreational vehicles, show specials, supplies and accessories are yours for the shopping. Visit our website for more info. Admission is free!

Petal Drop LA (May 29): Petal Drop returns to DTLA this weekend, although exact time and place remain unknown. The anonymous art collective will invite the public to an industrial site within the city where thousands of fallen jacaranda blossoms will create a “surreal factory” to last through the morning. If anything, it should make for a great IG post.

Crawfest 2016 (May 29): 700 lbs of crawfish with all the fixings, all-you-can-drink beers and a souvenir cup are what awaits you at Crawfest 2016. Head over to The Brig in Venice Beach for this fantastic Sunday Funday celebration.

Free Admission to LACMA (May 30): LACMA is offering free admission on Memorial Day to the general public. Unwind from the long weekend and enjoy a day of art (and maybe grab a bite to eat at the adjacent Lemonade while you’re there!) For more information visit lacma.org.

Fairplex will be fairly quiet this weekend but there’s plenty going on in our surrounding communities!

Weekender: All over town 48th District Schools Agriculture & Nutrition Fair (May 21): The Ag Fair is wrapping things up on Saturday but there’s still time to visit! Say hello to the animals, check out educational exhibits from nearby schools and try the hands-on learning activities. More info at agfair.org

Street Food Cinema (May 21): Street Food Cinema is back for the warm summer months and they have a diverse selection of films and locations to choose from this Saturday. Pack a picnic dinner and dust off those lawn chairs for this outdoor movie screening experience. Choose between Back to the Future, Mean Girls and Toy Story (Westchester Park, Syd Kronenthal Park and Griffith Park respectively.

Paint & Wine At The Promenade (May 21): For the 21+ crowd, the Promenade gallery in downtown Pomona is hosting a wine and paint night this Saturday. $30 includes materials, wine, cheese, crackers and the art lesson. More info at downtownpomona.org.

Claremont Folk Festival (May 22): The annual Claremont Folk Festival is this Sunday! Head over to the Sontag Theather on Pomona College Campus and enjoy an afternoon and evening of music, food and drinks. More info at folkmusiccenter.com.

Another week has come and gone and now it’s time to relax! Check out what we have happening at Fairplex this weekend:

Palates & Palettes (May 14): Our monthly wine & paint night is this Saturday! Join us as we learn to paint the works of Pablo Picasso while indulging in food and wine from his homeland of Spain. There are still a few spots left! If you would like to RSVP click here.

Bubble Run 5K (May 14): A glance out our office window shows that the Bubble Run set-up has already begun! The Bubble Run invites you to jog, skip, walk/run through a 5K filled with suds, bubbles and foam (lots of foam). Once you reach the finish line get ready to party and dance with your fellow runners. Registration is available here.

RailGiants Train Museum (May 14-15): The RailGiants train museum is open to the public this weekend, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. each day. Bring your kids to explore the giant steam engines and say hello to our docents inside the museum. We’re more than happy to answer any questions you might have! More info at railgiants.org.

Fairplex Garden Railroad (May 15): Last but not least, the Fairplex Garden Railroad is open this Sunday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Our volunteers are busy working on new scenery, refurbishing various trains and making sure the entire land is in tip top shape. Upland Lemon Festival (April 29 – May 1): We’re taking our team off-site this weekend to help produce the 2016 Upland Lemon Festival! Get ready for a weekend of music, carnival rides, shopping, and eating & drinking all things lemon as we celebrate the city’s citrus roots. Admission is FREE. A Taste of Claremont (April 30): The Rotary Club of Claremont is hosting the 17th annual A Taste of Claremont fundraising event this Saturday. Citrus Blues Festival (May 1): The inaugural Citrus Blues Festival is happening at the Upland Lemon Festival this Sunday. Stop by and enjoy a cold glass of lemonade (or a brew… either one) and enjoy the sounds of our talented local blues bands all day long. More info at uplandlemonfestival.com.

Southern California Historic Car Festival (April 29 – May 1): The 15th annual Southern California Historic Sports Car Festival will take place at the Auto Club Speedway, featuring vintage race cars, two days of racing and a party for the drivers and their crews. More info at svra.com.

Happy Earth Day! There are a lot of great things happening this weekend — and many are right here in our own neighborhood. Keep reading for more info.

Run, jog and dance through five music zones (music selected by you!) and cross the finish line into the after party. Registration is still open! Click here to join. 

Walk MS: Inland Empire (April 23): Join Team Fairplex as we do Walk MS at the Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario! We’re glad to be a part of such a great cause and we would love to see you there! Choose between the 1K or 5K tracks. Registration is still open. Click here for more info (and to sign up!)

Fostering Style (April 23): The dA Center for the Arts is hosting “Fostering Style” — a pop-up shop fundraiser for the Children’s Foundation of America. Guests can enjoy complimentary refreshments as they shop clothing and accessories. An entry donation of $5 is suggested. Great LA River Clean-Up (April 23): Tomorrow marks Saturday #2 of the Great LA River Clean-Up. Choose from 15 sites along the river, pick up your cleaning gear and join in efforts to make our city a better place! More info here.

It’s going to be a fun weekend at Fairplex and we can’t wait to get it started! Keep reading to see what’s happening on campus:

Pomona Beautification Day (April 16): Volunteers are dedicating their Saturday morning to sprucing up Pomona. This is a great way for our community to gather together for one goal: giving our city some love. Pre-register for one of the service projects online to receive a complimentary ticket to the LA County Fair!  More info at pomonabeautification.com

Palates & Palettes (April 16): The Millard Sheets Art Center will be open late Saturday evening for our monthly Palates & Palettes session. This time we are learning to paint one of the beautiful paintings by USA’s Georgia O’Keeffe — all while drinking wine of course! There are still a few spots available. Click here to sign up!

All-Ladies Cosmo Run 7K (April 16): It’s girls-night-out at Fairplex! Grab all your girlfriends and head to our campus for the Cosmo Run 7K (4.3 miles). Jog, walk, dance or run the course and celebrate at the after party with cosmopolitans. Registration is still open! Click here for more info.

Pomona Swap Meet (April 17): The Pomona Swap Meet returns bright and early Sunday morning to Fairplex. Shop thousands of auto parts and accessories, automobilia, and vintage rides! The Dog Cafe (Now Open): What better way to spend a rainy weekend than in a warm cafe, sipping coffee and cuddling with dogs? (Answer: There is no better way.) The Dog Cafe — the first to hit the United States — opened Thursday in Silver Lake. More info here.

Renaissance Pleasure Faire (April 9 – May 23): The Renaissance Faire returns to Irwindale this spring for much feasting, drinking and celebrating of an era long gone. Tickets, programming and additional info available here.

Hot Tub & SwimSpa Show (April 8 – April 10): The Hot Tub & SwimSpa Show returns to Fairplex this weekend as your one-stop shop for spas and jacuzzis. There’s no better time than now to get ready for the warm summer months! More info here.

BT5K Run & Walk (April 9): Also at Fairplex, the Breakthrough for Brain Tumors 5K is this Saturday. Proceeds go towards brain tumor/cancer research and patient programs. We love events with a cause and this one is fantastic. To register or learn more, click here.

Fairplex Garden Railroad (April 10): The Fairplex Garden Railroad is one of the oldest and possibly largest miniature railroads in the world! The railroad is open to the public this Sunday, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Parking is free at Gate 1! For more information visit fgrr.org.

The Shining at Old Griffith Park Zoo (April 1): If you’ve been on social media at all today you know that April Fools Day is in full effect. Why not add to the weirdness by having a scary movie night at the (supposedly) haunted Old Griffith Park Zoo? The Shining is a classic, after all. Grab discount tickets with Goldstar.

Natural History Museum’s First Fridays (April 1): First Fridays are back at the Natural History Museum! This after-hours party includes guided tours, scientist-led discussions, and music. World of Dance (April 2): If you love urban dance you will love this event. World of Dance is an international dance competition featuring some of the best in the business, including some of your favorite YouTube dance stars. The LA event will be here at Fairplex this Saturday. Immerse yourself in the world of urban dance and music for this truly unique experience. 2 p.m. – 10 p.m. Tickets are still available here.

PVW Fun Run/Walk (April 2): The annual Pomona Valley Workshop (PVW) Fun Run/Walk for Adults with Disabilities is this Saturday, also on our campus! Come participate and support this organization — the 1K Walk starts at 8:00 a.m. and the 5K follows at 8:30 a.m. More info here.

Roaring Twenties Street Jam (April 1-3): It’s the ultimate throwback weekend in Los Feliz this weekend with the Roaring Twenties Street Jam. The event includes walking tours of vintage architecture, a dance party (with lessons), a silent film screening and a late-night speakeasy in the basement of Mack Sennet Studios beginning at midnight on April 2.
