Fairplex Weekend Recap: Horse Expo 2016

It’s always fun to see our campus transform from event to event and this weekend was no exception. In just a matter of days we made the switch from roadster and doo-wop music to horses and country tunes. Check it out!

Everywhere you looked you could see horse experts and enthusiasts chatting with one another, swapping stories and tips and shopping, eating and soaking in the warm weather together. All in all, we would say this weekend was a success!

The Super Bowl isn’t the only big event happening this weekend! We took a break from our offices and checked out the Horse Expo happening on campus. It’s always fun to hear country music blasting, the smell of leather (saddles, stirrups etc.) and saying hello to all the horses being walked around!

Check out the fun yourself this weekend, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily! Visit horseexpoevents.com for a full schedule of programming and event info. Happy Friday!

L.A. Weekender: Horses, otters and Super Bowl 50

Brace yourselves, Super Bowl weekend has arrived. It’s going to be pretty busy in L.A. but if you plan your days right, this could be a great start to the month. Here are just a few of the things happening:

Horse Expo L.A. Weekender: Horses, otters and Super Bowl 50

Western States Horse Expo (Feb 5-7): The Horse Expo returns to Fairplex this weekend with all things equine. If you’re a horse enthusiast this is the place to be. Connect with fellow horse friends, get a leg up on the latest training and education, shop premier equine vendors and, of course, enjoy some time with your favorite horses. Open 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. daily. Visit horseexpoevents.com for event details.

Hot Tub & SwimSpa Show (Feb 5-7): Winter weather never sticks around in Southern California and, despite El Niño predictions, it looks like it’s going to be another sunny year for us. Avoid the hassle of going from store to store and get all your backyard accessories at the Hot Tub & SwimSpa Show! Browse hot tubs, patio furniture, BBQs and all your other needs in one building at Fairplex. Visit spapoolandbbqshow.com for more info.

First Fridays in LA (Feb 5): The first Friday of the month is one of our favorites in Los Angeles. The Natural History Museum, Abbot Kinney in Venice and Long Beach all offer special food, art and shopping activities on the first Friday of each month! Click on the links above for information on each one.

Taste of Night Market (Feb 5-6): The Taste of Night Market comes to Santa Monica this weekend. If you missed the Asian American Expo last month at Fairplex this is another great way to celebrate the Lunar New Year! Enjoy dishes from L.A. based chefs, watch live performances and celebrate the cultural experiences Taste of Night Market has to offer. For more info click here.

Super Bowl Everything (Feb 7): If you or your friends/family are football fans, chances are you’ll be loading up on food and watching a screen most of the day. But in case you don’t have plans yet, check out some of these festivities happening in the L.A. area.

McKinley’s Grille will also be offering $12 Coors Light and $15 Dos Equis pitchers along with $8 food specials during the big game so you’ll be fed and watered if you spend the day with us!

And if football is really not your thing, maybe the Puppy, Kitten or Otter Bowl will be more your speed. Think less sports fanatics, more animal lovers and an all around overdose of happiness.

Wherever you are this weekend, we hope you stay safe, happy and in the company of your family and friends! Cheers.

Event Industry News: Fairplex Weekend Recap

horse expo 1 225x300 Event Industry News: Fairplex Weekend Recap Fairplex weekend recap: Fairplex was buzzing with activity this weekend. The annual Horse Expo filled the FairView Farms stables and paddocks with dozens of horses, and vendors, artists and authors settled into our expo halls.

Thousands of horse enthusiasts flocked to the campus to hear from industry experts, watch breeding demonstrations and shop for saddles, buckles, riding attire and countless other goods.

On the other side of campus the NHRA Winternationals took over our speedway kicking off the 2014 drag racing season.

Sochi Olympics: The 2014 Winter Olympics have been interesting, to say the least. Regardless of various hotel floops and the now-infamous Olympic Ring mishap, the Opening Ceremony was a beautiful tribute to the cultural history of Russia, ending with a glorious 30-minute fireworks show. Not a bad way to start one of the largest events in the world. As of this morning, Team USA has taken a total of five medals–two gold and three bronze.

Facebook Paper

Social media: Facebook had a busy week, creating “Look Back” videos for each of its’ billion users to celebrate its 10th anniversary and launching the new Paper app. The Paper app allows users to organize their news feed based on categories, much like an online newspaper. Options include health, entertainment, crafts, sports, friends, home & garden and numerous other niche categories. Each category is composed of daily top news stories for that category with links to the original story in each post. Visually pleasing, well-organized and easy to use, Paper may be the saving grace of a falling empire.

flappybird 300x241 Event Industry News: Fairplex Weekend Recap

Technology: Flappy Bird, the wildly popular smartphone/tablet game, ended almost as soon as it began. Despite more than 50 million downloads, game creator Dong Nguyen decided to remove the game from the App Store and Google Play Store today.

“I can’t take it anymore,” Nguyen tweeted on Sunday. Looks like we’ll have to wait awhile for the next latest-and-greatest time waster. Goodbye, Flappy Bird. You were maddeningly addicting while you lasted. Photo taken from Mashable

Ride a horse, book a vacation, enjoy the weekend…

It’s going to be a busy week at Fairplex!

Even as I blog, the USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) Naturalization Ceremony is happening on our grounds and it is looking quite busy.

The real crazy happens this weekend though, with a horse expo and AAA travel plans swirling on grounds. Here is what’s going down:

3102 1horse expo 150x132 Ride a horse, book a vacation, enjoy the weekend... Horse Expo Pomona (Jan 31-Feb 2)
As someone who has grown up with horse fanatics (my aunt brought her horse to my suburb for my 1st birthday…) I can tell you Horse Expo Pomona is perfect for small children, adults and grandparents alike. Check out: some of the world’s most talented performers and educators in the industry, games, contests, cookie making and horse painting at Young Rider Park and shopping sprees galore.

3215 13215 1AAA 150x132 Ride a horse, book a vacation, enjoy the weekend... AAA Travel Show (Feb 2)
It may be rainy, windy and cold right now but the summer sun will be here before you know it. The AAA Travel Show gives guests a first-hand look at the newest cruises and tours for 2013. Triple A agents will also be available to answer questions or to help begin the planning process.
Whether you have the travel bug or have half a mind to delve into the equestrian world, swing by and say hello!
