This weekend was non-stop fun both on and off the Fairplex campus! From the Holiday Half Marathon & 5K to the festivities in Downtown Pomona, our staff and guests alike had a blast celebrating with winter fun this weekend. Here are some of our highlights:
Neighborhood Holiday Cookie Party
Every year we invite our neighbors to join us for a holiday cookie decorating party. Families are invited to an evening of games, crafts, face painting, storytelling and, of course, cookies galore. We love having the opportunity to meet our neighbors and start the holiday season off right with them.
Santa Cop Community Outreach Program
The Pomona Police Department’s Santa Cop event is one we look forward to every year.
This community program collects toys for children who have lost loved ones due to crimes in the local area.
Thummer, the LA County Fair mascot paid a visit for photos with the kids and to support the cause. Thank you Pomona PD for all that you do for our city!
Downtown Pomona Christmas Parade
Fairplex had its very own float in the annual Downtown Pomona Christmas parade! Special thanks to everyone who helped us decorate and shared in the holiday fun.
Holiday Half Marathon & 5K
As it is every year, Fairplex was the home base for the Holiday Half Marathon & 5K. As you can see, it was quite festive!

Rainy days are best spent indoors with good company, and that’s exactly how we’re ending the work week. Our friends at The Learning Centers at Fairplex had the genius idea of holding a company-wide potluck this afternoon.
The Millard Sheets Art Center became our makeshift lunchroom as our coworkers filled their plates with tostadas, enchiladas, lasagna, veggies, salad, cookies and more. Can you say food coma?
Our workplace is our community, and it felt good to all eat together and enjoy the sound the rain outside. Cheers to the weekend!
Every year our staff and volunteers host a festive, candy-filled Halloween party for our neighbors and their families.
Our Farm is transformed into a land of tricks and treats: bounce houses, games, crafts, a hay maze, food, drinks and our very own pumpkin patch! We love meeting and spending time with the folks who surround our property and we’re thankful for the staff and volunteers who take the time to make all of this happen.
It’s going to be an exciting Halloween weekend here at Fairplex — this party is just the beginning!

Education is a core focus at Fairplex and we love connecting with the Pomona Unified School District when the opportunity presents itself! Today, our community outreach team stopped by each elementary school in the district with a Dr. Suess care package as a celebration of Read Across America (Dr. Suess’ birthday) next week.
Each package contained a Dr. Suess classic and tools to help teachers continue to build a love of reading in our young students. We appreciate all that our local educators do to provide the best education possible for the youth in our community.

This weekend we had the honor of hosting the retirement dinner for Bill Witzka of the La Verne Police Department. Bill has played a huge role in helping to make Fairplex a safe and secure event venue.
Officer Bill Witzka poses with Barry Gillies, director of property operations at Fairplex
Bill has dedicated many years to serving his community, including all of us at Fairplex. We appreciate the support of Bill and the La Verne PD as a whole in continuing to provide a safe experience for our guests and our surrounding neighbors. Thank you!
One of the things we love about working at Fairplex is the diversity in all of our programs. While fun runs and Fairs are definitely part of our game, community involvement is an equally — if not more — important part of who we are.
Every day we invite the community to our campus in the form of field trips, youth and adult classes, art events, child development services and a number of other community partnerships. We love seeing our neighbors visiting us on a regular basis!
But we can’t do this alone. A large part of our community effort comes from our volunteers in the Fairplex Ambassador program. We have blogged about this before and thought the start of a new year would be a great time to re-introduce the program to our new readers.
What You’ll Do
Fairplex ambassadors have numerous parts to play year-round. One day you might be helping out at our Halloween neighborhood party, the next you could be acting as a docent at a Farm field trip.
During the Fair you will likely be guiding students and teachers through the educational aspects of LACF. Events vary from month to month and it’s rare that you’ll do the same thing twice in a row.
Hear from past ambassadors on their favorite parts of volunteering at Fairplex!
Who You Will Impact
Being an ambassador gives you the opportunity to touch hundreds of lives. Students, teachers, families, teens and seniors will benefit from the time you spend with them. Fairplex employees also enjoy working side by side with volunteers on various community projects; it’s truly a family effort.
How To Join
If being a Fairplex ambassador is something you want to do in 2016, signing up is easy! Just fill out the form on our website. Our community relations team will contact you and walk you through our orientation program. You’ll be volunteering in no time.
Being a Fairplex ambassador means you are both a part of our surrounding community and a part of the Fairplex family. Without you we wouldn’t be able to carry out as many events and services as we do. Thank you!
We hosted our annual Neighborhood Holiday Cookie Decorating Party last night. It’s one of our favorite community events of the year!
Kids were able to take photos with Santa, decorate sugar cookies, play games and do crafts. We welcomed about 120 families this year and hope to have many more from our neighborhood join us next time.
Today our team members played Santa to the surrounding communities and dropped off poinsettias and a Fairplex holiday greeting card to all our neighbors!
We would like to take this time to thank our neighbors for letting us be a part of their community. We appreciate their involvement with us. Happy Holidays!
