Behind-the-Scenes: Team Bonding at Fairplex

Fairplex Blog outdoors 300x225 Behind the Scenes: Team Bonding at Fairplex We ended last week on a positive note with a good old fashioned tailgate BBQ!

Usually our whole team is busy working on our various events, campus maintenance, community relations and any other number of Fairplex-related tasks, but every now and then we take a break to for some team bonding and fun in the sun.

We were all invited to wear our respective team jerseys and spend our Friday lunch hour feasting on burgers (grilled by none other than our CEO, Miguel Santana and Senior Vice President, Lucas Rivera!) and enjoying the glorious Southern California sunshine.

The Farm at Fairplex crew also brought some of our newly hatched feathered friends to play with: quail, silk chickens and even a baby duckling! We also got to say hello to some newborn bunnies, and some of the Farm’s friendliest rabbits.

We were also invited to browse some newly harvested Farm greens, pickled vegetables and quail eggs for sale. We even sampled some fresh egg plant chips.

Fairplex Farm rabbit 225x300 Fairplex Snapshot: Look who came to visit! What a fun Friday! The Farm at Fairplex team stopped by our offices this afternoon with some of their rabbits and silk chickens for us to meet.

We also got to sample some of the canned goods they’ve been whipping up in the Farm kitchen, and tried some of the organic fresh eggs they collected this week from their various chickens and quail.

Special thanks to our horticulturist, Don, and his fantastic team for taking the time to visit and educate all of us a little more on Farm life. All in all, a great start to the weekend!

Throwback Thursday: #PSTInstaSwap

A couple months ago the Millard Sheets Art Center participated in the #PSTInstaswap. 40 institutions hosting Pacific Standard Time: LA/LA exhibitions swapped locations for a day to explore the art and culture happening outside their own spaces.

Each institution was assigned a specific swap. We swapped with the Riverside Art Museum, who hosted “Myth & Mirage” — an exploration of how Californian architects and designers adapted Spanish Colonial, Mission, ecclesiastical and native elements to create romanticized perceptions of our state.

In exchange, the Riverside Art Museum social team visited the Millard Sheets Art Center to check out our hosted exhibition: “One Path Two Journeys” featuring the artwork of Judithe Hernández and Patssi Valdez — two brilliant, strong artists known for influencing the aesthetic voices of Latinas in the 20th century:

We had a blast doing the #PSTInstaswap! Special thanks to the Riverside Art Museum team for partnering with us.

Explore “One Path Two Journeys” at the Millard Sheets Art Centers, Saturdays & Sundays 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. now through Jan. 28. Admission is FREE! Free parking at Gate 1.

Holidays at Fairplex Part II: McKinley’s Grille

What does a 487-acre campus look like during the holidays? Festive of course! Countless Christmas trees, fake snow (this is LA County after all), thousands of twinkling lights and even a reindeer or two can be spotted throughout our enormous campus. Take a look at some of our favorite spots in this two part series:

Not to be outdone by the Conference Center, the Sheraton Hotel restaurant is equally decked out in holiday fun.

Fairplex provides temporary home to horses during fire

Fairplex Horses 249x300 Fairplex provides temporary home to horses during fire If you’re a resident of Southern California, you have been keeping tabs on the numerous wildfires wreaking havoc throughout our region. Many have been forced to evacuate, bringing their animals along with them.

Fairplex has once again opened its barns to horses and large farm animals in need of shelter during the evacuations — so far we have about 23 horses staying with us.

If you or someone you know is in need of a place to keep farm animals, please give us a call at (909) 865-4600 to confirm space availability. We have 250 stalls available, 20 of which are currently in use as of Thursday, at 1 p.m. Enter through Gate 12 off White Avenue upon arrival.

Thank you to the volunteers and staff who are working to provide a clean, safe space for these animals and their owners.

Our thoughts go out to those being affected by the fires, and to those who are bravely combating the flames.

Fairplex Snapshot: Neighborhood Halloween Party

Every year our Community team hosts a neighborhood Halloween party for the families surrounding Fairplex!

It’s always a fun time: kids in brightly colored costumes playing games, getting their faces painted, picking up pumpkins and, of course, plenty of candy to go around.

Thank you to all the parents and children who participate each year! We love spending time getting to know our neighbors.
