Throwback Thursday: The LA County Fair of the 1950s

Have you ever wondered what going to the LA County Fair looked like a decade or five ago? We found this gem on YouTube the other day and had to share!

Take a look at both the San Diego Fair and the LA County Fair of the 1950s in this video, covering everything from animal exhibits to community competitions and beyond. Enjoy!

Special thanks to YouTube user Jeff Quitney for sharing on his channel!

Fairplex Snapshot: Fall in The Farm

Fall in The Farm — our celebration of all things American agriculture — has expanded rapidly over the past few years.

During our first year, we had a handful of chicks and 2-3 rabbits who called The Farm home. Now our farm family has grown to take over several of the old horse barns, and includes turkeys, turkens, chicks, hens and dozens of rabbits, not to mention koi fish and turtles in our above-ground pond.

New activities included cow milking demonstrations, a turkey calling contest and beer brewing. We also saw the return of gardening workshops, rope making, corn grinding, healthy cooking demos, tours of our Farm, and a number of interactive exhibits thanks to our community partners.

All in all, it was an incredibly successful event, and we look forward to meeting more of our surrounding neighbors in the future!

Fairplex Weekend Recap: Celebrating Dia de los Muertos at En Memoria

What a fun weekend at Fairplex! From our first ever Dia de los Muertos celebration (En Memoria), to the freaktacular spectacle that was Lagunitas Beer Circus, to the family fun at Fall in the Farm, the fun was truly non-stop.

We like to share our weekend experiences through the eyes of our guests! Here are some of our favorites:

En Memoria
Hop contest, lowrider displays, unique altars, delicious food, live music and beautiful weather made our first event a wonderful success! Thanks to all who joined us in our Dia de los Muertos celebrations — already looking forward to next year.

Lagunitas Beer Circus
Shout-out to the Lagunitas Brewing Co. for bringing such a crazy, colorful event to Fairplex! Guests sampled delicious craft beer while enjoying live music and circus acts all day long. (P.S. Proceeds from beer pours went towards The Learning Centers at Fairplex!)

Fall in The Farm
We continued to enjoy gorgeous fall weather on Sunday at Fall in the Farm! Our celebration of all things agriculture included cow milking demonstrations, turkey calling contests, workshops in gardening, floral arrangements and egg hatching, booths from 20+ community partners, olive oil and tea tasting, visits with our resident farm animals and much more.

This event has only continued to grow over the years and we look forward to continued partnerships with the local community in the future!

All in all, a successful weekend at Fairplex, using all parts of our diverse campus. To see what’s coming up next, visit us at Fairplex.com.
