Weekend Recap: The Spark Run, Belmont Stakes and Sancocho Festival

June 9, 2014

Fairplex was busy, busy, busy this weekend! Saturday kicked off with Belmont Stakes satellite wagering at Finish Line Sports Grill. Horse racing fans settled in for an afternoon of betting, eating, drinking and watching the horse races on TV.

As the sun began to set, Fairplex came alive with color and music as runners gathered for The Spark Run 5k.

The entire campus transformed from its typical serenity into a nighttime party brought to life by neon lights, glowing fountains, illuminated sculptures and fantastic light shows. Runners sprinted, jogged, danced and walked their way through the 3.11-mile course and reached the finish line ready to continue the party.

Kaskade set up shop near the Grandstand and gave an amazing EDM performance for an adoring, neon-clad crowd while Cornucopia fed and watered the runners on the sidelines.

Less than 24 hours later, the campus changed appearances again, this time for the Sancocho Music Festival. What was a playground of music and lights Saturday night turned into an explosion of Latin culture by Sunday morning.

Guests watched dance and musical performances, participated in crafts and games, ate food from countries around the world and celebrated all day long.

We look out our office windows and see the usual tranquil scene of trees, grassy slopes and quiet buildings and it’s hard to imagine the blend of dance, music and festivities that happened this weekend. We can’t wait for our upcoming events and to see the campus change colors once again!
