L.A. Weekender: Taste of Claremont, Toyota Grand Prix and the Festival of Books

If you couldn’t make it to Coachella with your fellow Angelenos don’t worry. There are plenty of other fun things to do in LA. It might not include an amazing musical lineup, or a desert wasteland of dance and celebration, but we have a few ideas up our sleeve for those of you stranded in the city. Here is this week’s edition of the Fairplex L.A. Weekender:

Taste of ClaremontIf you happen to live in our neck of the woods, a Taste of Claremont is perfect for our fellow foodies and wine connoisseurs. The 15th annual Taste of Claremont is happening Saturday, April 12 from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. Experience the city’s best wine, spirits and cuisine from a number of local restaurants, meet fellow foodies in the community and know your funds are going to a good cause. 40th Annual Toyota Grand Prix: The 40th Annual Toyota Grand Prix is kicking off today and runs through Sunday, April 13th. The 2014 IndyCar Series includes races around the 1.97-mile, 11-turn circuit through downtown Long Beach. Events include the TUDOR United SportsCar Championship, the Super Drift Challenge, Pirelli World Challenge and Indy Lights. For more information click here.

Festival of Books: The annual L.A. Times Festival of Books is happening at USC this weekend for you bookworms. Meet famous authors, celebrities, watch culinary artists create their best recipes, attend film screenings, enjoy live music and immerse yourself in culture this weekend. Pomona Swap Meet & Classic Car Show: Fairplex is hosting the Pomona Swap Meet & Classic Car Show on Sunday, inviting car enthusiasts of all ages to peruse auto parts at swap meet prices and enjoy the sight of hundreds of classics and customs all on display. Admission is $10. Open from 5 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Discover the Arts in LAWe just wrapped up the 2014 ArtReach: The Art of Pop Culture at Fairplex but we encourage you to continue to immerse yourself in the arts throughout the rest of Los Angeles. “Discover the Arts in LA” includes the city’s best hotels and more than 30 leading museums and performing groups offering discounted admission prices to experience L.A. culture.
