Wine, Cars, Stars & Horses

I really like this place in June. First, we have wine. A lot of wine – something like 3,500 different varieties – that our world-renowned wine judges are sipping, sloshing and sptooing right now for the Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition. wine judging 300x244 Wine, Cars, Stars & Horses

What you might not know: The thousands of wine glasses used for the competition are all hand-washed and dried. No soap, no lint, just hot, hot water and a lot of polishing by the wine team at Fairplex.

Then, on Saturday, June 14, you can be among the first to taste the award winners from the competition at the Wine & Cars Under the Stars  soiree. If you need a reason to attend besides just having fun and tasting some really great wines and spirits, sampling some amazing olive oils (we also have an international olive oil competition going on at Fairplex with more than 500 entries!), this event is for a good cause. It’s a fundraiser for the Millard Sheets Center for the Arts. Tickets are $100 per person, $50 of which is tax deductible!

If you need some FREE entertainment, come to the June Classic Morgan Horse Show, Friday, May 30 – Sunday, June 1morgan horse edited 1 175x300 Wine, Cars, Stars & Horses, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Park at Gate 12 on White Avenue for the usual $9.

GET READY FOR KABOOM! This is the best 4th of July fireworks show in the area and you won’t get bored waiting for dark because there are Monster Truck and Big Air Freestyle Motocross before the KABOOM! part of the show. Tickets are on sale now at the Fairplex Credentials Office (909-865-4070). Don’t wait. This will be a sellout! Tickets are $19.50 (reserved box seats), $17.50 (trackside bleachers), and $14 (general seating).

Welcome to Fairplex Insider

People! There’s a lot of stuff going on here at Fairplex – besides the Fair. Sure, the Fair is our biggest event, but Fairplex is more than giant turkey legs and carnival rides. Way more. I happen to know all about what goes on because I work here and I’m going to share some of the inside scoop with you in the Fairplex Insider blog – hence the precious user name, Scoopster.

Ok. What’s happening at Fairplex? You’d think things might be slow around here, what with the end-of-school-what-can-I-do-with-the-kids dilemma hanging heavy on parents’ collective minds. Not so. There are more than 20 events going on between now and the end of June. Some are even free (or nearly free). Check out full calendar listings at

The coolest thing to do this weekend at Fairplex

The Mission Circuit Dog Show (Thursday, May 22 – Monday, May 26, 8:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.) is one of the largest dog shows in the country. You don’t have to travel to New York City to see a huge variety of breeds strutting their pouffed-up, blown-dry stuff. It’s like a live version of the Best in Show movie (about the world famous Westminster Dog Show). Tip: The humans are as much fun to watch as the dogs, skipping around the ring, dog cookies at the ready.

If you’re thinking about getting a warm and fuzzy 4-legged friend to take home with you, this is the place to investigate more than 140 breeds all in one place.

This is a huge dog show covering several Fairplex buildings and outdoor areas. It’s very affordable entertainment, too. General admission is only $6. Park for $8 at Gate 17 on Fairplex Drive. Or go for valet parking at the Sheraton Fairplex parking lot and it’s only $5 more.
