Perennial Pleasers the Pig Races are Back!

September 9, 2011

Gabriel of Apple Valley pets one of the racing puppies.

And they’re off! The Fair is known each year for its live thoroughbred horse racing (started today!), but did you know they aren’t the only racing animals? Each year a pack of pint-sized porkers races round a mini rack to see who will be top hog. Well, the Barnyard Racers are back again… and this time they’ve come with more cuddly critters. Aside from the beloved oinkers (Vietnamese Pot Bellies and recently weaned pigs both race), the Barnyard Racers also includes sheep and dogs this year!
You will be on the edge of your seat to see which pig brings home the bacon as your section cheers on its designated racer. So, hoof it over to Thummer’s Entertainment Barn for some pig racing (which is totally free with admission to Fair, by the way). Afterward, celebrate your animal’s win and pig out at the deep-fried Oreo booth. Oreos are also the reward treats for the racers!
