L.A. Weekender: First Fridays, blacklights and soccer

October 4, 2013

Since every weekend consisted of the L.A. County Fair for us, we took a break from giving you the L.A. Weekender. Now that we’re back to a semi-normal schedule we thought it was time to re-launch our weekly Los Angeles event listings. Here you go… happy Friday!

First Fridays on the West Side: Take advantage of the first Friday of the month and spend a few hours down in Long Beach or Venice Beach, depending on what scene you prefer. Long Beach offers artists and musicians at three dozen venues in the Bixby Knolls area. Abbott Kinney is ideal for those of you looking to get a head-start on your Christmas shopping. Art junkies will definitely get their fix down here.

So Cal College Fair: Taking a break from the traditional “fun” we post, we need to give a little shout-out to our college fair. If you’re a junior/senior in high school or you’re thinking of pursuing post-high school education, swing by Fairplex either Friday night or Saturday afternoon for a little jumpstart on your decision. We’re offering seminars on ACT/SAT prep, athletic recruitment and financial aid. Oh, and there will be universities, trade and technical schools on-site to answer any questions you have about their specific schools. All information is available at www.socalcollegefair.com (P.S. It’s free!)

Blacklight Run: In the spirit of Halloween, our next 5k takes place in the dark. Grab your friends and family, all ages, sizes and speeds and get ready for a 3-mile trek into the dark. The only source of light? You. Just don a white t-shirt and get covered in glow paint as you make your way through the course. Finish the evening at the Blacklight Run Party, dancing around in your new neon attire and celebrating the start of a new season. All information on the Blacklight Run can be found at www.fairplex.com

Let’s Play Some Futbol: Since the Dodgers are fighting it out all the way in Atlanta against the Braves and the Kings are just getting started in their season, why not spend some time at the soccer field? L.A. Galaxy is playing against Chivas USA this Sunday at the StubHub Center.
