Happy Friday! Variety is the name of the game for this L.A. Weekender. If you wanted to have a little family time this weekend, these events are a perfect excuse to get the whole crew together for a little adventuring into Los Angeles:

Nisei Week Japanese Festival: First held in 1934, the Nisei Week Japanese Festival is one of the longest running ethnic festivals in the United States. Head down to Little Tokyo this weekend to check out the various exhibits, chow down on some sushi and noodles and spend an afternoon in Downtown LA. Located in the Japanese American Cultural & Community Center.

Dodgers vs. Tampa Bay: The Dodgers play against the Tampa Bay Rays all weekend. Take the family to a ballgame and enjoy Friday Night Fireworks tonight, or if you’re a big Dodger fan, head over to Dodger Stadium on Saturday for Hideo Nomo Bobblehead Day. Not only will the Dodgers be giving away free Nomo bobbleheads to the first, but the former pitcher himself will be there to do the ceremonial first pitch.

Summer Skate Expo: Come watch professional skaters perform their best tricks at the Southern California Skate Expo in the San Fernando Valley. The expo will have live music, dancing, autograph sessions, meet-and-greets, silent auctions, kids’ games, pro demos, plenty of food and other fun happenings. Of course, it is a Skate Expo, so guests are invited to sign up for the public skateboarding competition and strut their stuff throughout the weekend.

Reptile Super Show: Fairplex is hosting the Reptile Super Show this weekend. If you’ve ever wanted to own a snake, chameleon or any other number of reptiles, this is the place to be. A variety of colorful and interesting critters will be available for viewing (and purchase, if you feel like it.) Aug. 10-11.

Summer: Even if you don’t feel like going to a skateboard expo, hanging out with reptiles and couldn’t possibly trek to Dodger Stadium or Little Tokyo, there is still plenty to soak in before school starts. Beach. BBQ. Theme parks. Picnics. Game nights. It’s still summer. We hope you enjoy your weekend!
